was just wondering what the smallest terriers you have worked or have heard of working are,any stories welcome of any type of terrier.i have a small 10 month old russel and I wil put pics on when i can work out how 2.the reason i ask is some guy in the pub last night was telling me that he used to use tiny yorkshire terriers instead of a ferret when rabbiting!do you think this is bullshit?cheers fellas

there are some lads over this way that use russel x chiwawa(how do you spell that :icon_redface: ) and reckon its ok,i've never seen them work.

if the dog is small enough and can get round the set then why not.

the germans use tiny teckel(rabbit teckel) to great effect.

the little dogs will be keen enough if entered properly and yappyness can only aid the bolting.

just don't put a bellman and flint collar on it!!!!!

The small russel in my avatar goes to ground after rabbits. She's obviously not as good as a ferret, but she's bolted a handful! I try to stop her going down when we'e concentrating on the ferreting though.

ive always had black terriers and mine are a fair size, last yr i was given a small russel with 40 yrs breeding behind him off a terrierman for our hunt and to be honest he is a godsend for some of the earth locally, he is a yapper and nver mixes it, but i have bollted more than ever, he is a usefull tool in the box

forgot to add, think they were taking the mick mate, i wouldnt have a terrier going to ground on bunnies, accident waiting to happen

This little white terrier had the job of a ferret back in the day

Bless ya stabs weren't you cute lol

Some of the shorter pups from the two previous litters go to ground after bunnies all the time. The dad is just too tall to get right in But I've had to pull him out of rabbit warrens that he's run full pelt into and they've collapsed :o Usually while ferreting

I reckon a small enough dog could do it in the place of a ferret but personally think it's a tragedy waiting to happen.

The only time I've really let her at it in a big warren was when she had a B+F collar on and we were geared up for digging. Saying that, she's not far off the size of a big buck rabbit..

I had a mate when i was about 16, and his mini foxie went down rabbit hole an bolt em every time we went out hunting(he was a pain at times, but we had fun). his line was used as fox dogs. prob about 8inch tall and well and truely spandable
