Medic 0
Which would be better for killing small game and which would be more accurate? or even if one is good for both, both in 22. , to be more specific ammo is 22. Logun Penitraitors and scope would be an mid value 3-9X50 scope. Many Thanks! Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
Accuracy is accuired by practise . ANY gun will always outshoot the bloke on the stock end of it . Its more a case of what `fits` you better Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Can't argue with Buster there buddy Phantom Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
I've shot the 97 before and it was a superb rifle, but then my experiance of shooting other HW rifles and Pistols, they all are Some people like a fixed barrel as they reckon it will give better accuracy as there is no chance of barrel droop. However in a gun of such quality the HW's have very good alignment and locking, so the chances of barrel droop are virtually zero and the locking mech keeps them firm and true So again, have a feel of both, if you can have a few shots with them and see which you personally get along best with. maty j 6
to be more specific ammo is 22. Logun Penitraitors Don't limit your self to one brand of ammo either. Different rifles shoot better with different ammo. Out of those 2 I'd choose the 97k. Then I'd strip It down to fit a decent tuning kit. I've never seen inside one but been told even the springs can come fitted to the rifle un finished Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
There's no 'better' between the two, mate, they're just not the same. I owned an for a long time years back and they're a cracking gun, if a little heavy. I've uesed the 97 too and again, really can't fault it for a springer. The 'barrel droop' that's been mentioned was a manufacturing issue that affected some HW break-barrels and is down to the alignment of the barrel in relation to the cylinder (where the scope mounts) and could cause the shots to land lower than the scopes adjustment could cope with. Not really an accuracy issue, more of just a pain in the arse if your gun had this problem as you needed to feck about with shimming up the rear mount. As has been said, don't get too hung up on a particular pellet. The Logun's are very good, if your gun likes them (I use them all the time in the field in my AA 410c) but not all guns like the same stuff. You need to experiment to see what works best in your own gun. Cheers. Edited April 27, 2010 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
Medic 0
Thankyou all very much for your assistance, it realy has helped me! very much appreachate it, i will take your advice and try them both out with a recomended pellet 22. Logun Penitraitors, i was just a little worried as the first air rifle i ever had was an incredibly old BSA Lighting lookalike, all i know is its 177., has iron sights and was break barrel and has BSA on the stock and that kinda made me abit nervous around break barrels, i also saw the length of the barrel of the HW97k and to me it looked a little short, ive played airsoft for a long time and that kinda made me think it wouldnt be to accurate as im quite new to effectiveness of air rifles but i have shot air rifles before. Thankyou all! if you have any other advice relative to this please post it! Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Don't worry about the barrel length on the 97, it'really not an issue. An old BSA break barrel that looks like a Lightning was probably an old Meteor. The quality of modern gear's in a totally different league, so no need to worry about the barrel going slack in the jaws. Try to have a go with as many types as you can, there's not really any bad guns about these days so long as you stay with the main quality makes. A gun that feels 'right' to you will always shoot better in your hands than one that doesn't.... We're all not the same size and shape, after all. Good luck, mate. Cheers. stealthy1 3,964
Go for the 97, and dont be put off by the short barreled guns, carbines are just as accurate as long barrels at airgun distances, plus the sliding breach is a cool invention Quote Link to post
