IMO tripe alone is not enough for a dog, its a very low quality feed on its own, when mixed with a raw diet of flesh and bones then fine. That said i've seen dogs fed on a lot worst and look good on it . . . . I'm a firm believer in you get out what you put in.

a few years back me and my bro kept about a dozen lurchers between us feed them on mainly a diet of tribe mixed with chicken carccase and pasta as whe had a ready supply of each and was a cheap way to feed so many dogs . they all were in good shape and health.mince tripe in small amounts is ideal to start a young pup on they lash it down

ye mate i been getting raw chicken carcas minced in with the tripe and the dogs love it but i been feeding complete feed to make up vitamins n minerals that tripe dont have.

I think a varied diet is better for dogs. Mine get tripe, but they also get other types of meat. You can maybe ask round at local butchers for waste scraps, some good stuff in there and it's usually free or you get a massive amount for a nominal fee. I also go to a chicken processing place near me and buy a box of chicken backs - get about 70 for £3.50. It's human grade, and econtains a really good ratio of meat, skin, bone and usually the kidneys are still attached as well which is good.

Personally I think chicken carcass is a waste of time, there's nothing much to them. But again, as part of a varied diet, they're ok.

Also be thoughtful in choosing your tripe/raw supplier. If you buy the commercially produced shite like they sell at Pets at Home, it's slimy, watery crap. Some pet feed places get it delivered from local sources - I get my tripe from someone who does her own at home (there's a job I wouldn't want  ). I spent a good portion of yesterday swinging a cleaver at chicken backs and carcasses and mincing them up. Made a massive amount of food for the mutts. And I know for sure what's in it: nothing but chicken and bone.

I don't rate it as a mainstay.
