PINNACLE 2,297
We have a 13 month old bitch lurcher who I have been training to come and sit by whistle command and we are getting another dog who is a 6 month old lurcher in 10 days. He seems bright and has good recall and sit already but not to a whistle. I like the whistle as a command tool for a number of reasons but how do you go about training a second dog. I understand the training part it is just I don’t know whether I should get a different pitch whistle for him or use the same one with different pips or blows for each dog or will they get confused. I am! I would like (well dream of) to be able to call one dog back and sit the other at a distance or call them or sit them both together. That’s the plan. It is just the how I need to know. Chid 6,640
in theroy the dog your looking at should be the only one to move .. dont need differant tones or differant pips .. my father in law as worked more than one dog with the same whistle and commands ....... just have to get them used to working as a team
PINNACLE 2,297
It seems you are right as I got talking to a guy I know today who has gun dogs and he says the dogs will understand which whistle is for them or both and if they both come and you want one to stay I should hand signal. It sort of makes sense and I can imagine it working on a gun dog breed but a Salukix and a Bullx who knows but I am going to find out.
