Strap for Remington 597

Recommended Posts

hi Everyone,

I've just a a remington 597 rifle (semi-auto, synthetic stock). It doesn't have any clips attached to the stock so I cannot put a strap on to it. Has anyone had the same problem with this and if so how did you get around it?

Thanks for your help.

Get yourself some QD sling studs and quick detachable sling fittings uncle mikes, or any other brand...

you get ones for synthetic too, but some glue should work good, just be sure you have got enough room as not to go through the stock and damage the barrel, they come in a few differing lengths if you need them...

ATB...

I also have a remington 597 with synthetic stock. I put QD studs in mine, remove the stock from the action first, if you look inside the stock fore end where the stud would naturally go, there is a plastic 'nub' cast into the stock, just drill into this from the underside. Now, when i did mine i had a slight problem in that the nub came away so i just screwed the stud through and put a blob of araldite on the screw from the inside. With regard to the rear stud there is plenty of plastic in the stock to drill into, but again i put a little araldite on the threads as i was screwing it in. Nick

Great, thanks Nick. I might just take it to my gunsmith to sort out (I dont want to mess the gun up!). Has the gun been OK for you?

Cheers,

The gun has been good, i initially fed it winchester subs but when they started selling the winny subs in the new blue box instead of the old white and orange box i got cycling issues and failures to fire. I now run it on Eley and CCI subs.
