sparko 0
Hi, I have 2 jills, 2 sisters just a year old now...Had them jabbed about 6 weeks ago, I have noticed that one Is becoming more dominant than the other, as In wanting and taking food / water first....tonight I went to feed them and the dominant one was dragging the other round the cage by the ear, she wasnt screaming or anything, just became really submissive...Should I seperate them for a bit or just leave them to sort It out?...Thanks...Sparko Quote Link to post
wilson4347 5
Shes just treating her like a kit as they are in season, they should be fine Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Its perfectly normal behaviour.. if the jill on the receiving end isn't being allowed to eat put the food in the bedding box as that's where the dominant jill will drag her to .. & watch them for the next few days & if you feel the other jills getting thinner or generally depressed seperate them Quote Link to post
The one 8,479
Just hormonal but if youve had them jabbed they will soon settle down Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,482
I've had dominant jills before that had to be kept seperate or with a big hob that was nothing to do with hormones just set about killing other jills. It was my best worker both times so I wonder if they became dominant through being out more than the others? Quote Link to post
tdavepat 8
I have a larger jill that drags the smaller around by the scruff. It's not overly rough nor does it appear to be dominance. She drags her into their nest so I think she's being maternal. They both were jabbed 4 weeks ago. Quote Link to post
longdog13 36
I have a very small adult poley jill who is so intensly violent i've had to house her separately to my others. the is food and bed possessive with my other jills, and if my older ones go near her, she bites them so hard she punctures them on the first bite. it's more than just a dominance thing, as my other jills are really submissive to other ferrets, but the aggression doesn't stop. the poley is well handled, but will not tolerate female company i have no doubt after observing her, that she would of killed one of my others had i not separated them Quote Link to post

Phantom pregnancies are very common with both jabbed jills and them who have been with a vas hob, this should die down in due course. Quote Link to post
jenksi87 3
my elder albino jill keeps doing it. she will chase her through the full cage to get her, drag her upstairs and into the nest box, and wont let her out lol. funny to watch really. she used to do it when i first put them together when my sandy was only 8week old Quote Link to post

Jamie m 668
mate of myne has an albino jill biger head than your average jill even mounts the other jills its brought one or two out of season , dont know if its herd of but could it be a hermafrodite Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,482
When a jill is dragging other adults around I would say its more hormonal/maternal than dominance. Ferrets in the wild are solitary animals so wouldn't have a social hierarchy to be dominant in. The jills i've seen that went mad and trying to kill other ferrets weren't dragging them around or normal bickering when you introduce strange ferrets they were clamping on and spinning like a croc trying to rip a chunk off or biting straight on the heads Quote Link to post

sparko 0
Thanks for that lads, Its been a week since I asked the question, and they seem to have settled down a bit...I have been keeping an eye on them and there Is no damage to either, must say they are getting a bit nippier, even though they are handled every day..Cheers...Sparko Quote Link to post
