Only one person can answer this and thats your FLO. give them a ring and see what they say, just have a good reason and you should be ok. saying that each force seams to be differant, one might say on renewal but another might say after 12 months with good reason.

make the call is your best bet.

Personally I'd just have a quiet word with your FEO about it. After three years you should be in with a reasonable chance if you show that dropping the restriction would be benificial to your shooting.

I got mine open after a year. Some forces insist on it being after renewal and I've even heard of some that say that an open ticket doesn't exist. It all depends where you are. Whatever happens I think going in heavy with the support of any organisation would be rude to say the least. You've got to give them the chance to allow it first. It pays to keep them on side. After all it's human nature to try to make life hard for the people we don't like. It's much better to be liked!

Whilst time factors can become part of the equation there are more important things, like need, rounds fired, experience, land, etc, etc...build a strong case with lots of reasons and tell your FEO you need it Open...and keep your fingers crossed!

I think everybody has missed the point. Why do you need it opened ?

I don't think there is a point to be missed here , tell me one reason why he wouldn't want his fac opened up.

Here were my reasons.

A so I could shoot unaccompanied.

B Make my own call on the suitability of ground without the hassle of having it passed every time you shot somewhere new.

So your reasons not to have an open fac are ?????

Ive just sent mine off to be changed to "open" ive had my FAC scince 2007, i just phoned my FEO, had a little chat, he asked how much ammo i had used. I go shooting all the time so had some serious numbers to give him and i was told to write a letter saying why i thought i was ready and quoting the number of bullets fired, and he said that it wouldnt be a problem getting it changed.

P.S im with Avon & Somerset
