Chunk 3
just get a stright whippet mate if its breed right it will do any thing a bull whippet will and more carn;t see the point off putting bull into a whippet the breed has been tried and tested for years putting bull into them will not make them any better Quote Link to post
blackstaff 488
Why do you say that Chunk ? Personaly thought that if you put some bull blood in you would increase strength and bone, increased stamina, make them a little less injury prone due to the bull being more rough and ready, and possibly better feet ?? I bred a litter last year and bred for these reasons along with a few more selfish ones I did use a 3/4 non ped whippet, 1/4 G/hound mind to get some decent height and size into the litter. Not lookng for a row, always interested in what others have to say if it makes sense :thumbs Digger - Whatever dog you choose will only be as good as you make it mate Edited April 27, 2010 by blackstaff Quote Link to post
bull101 35
personally i would opt for a bull greyhound, as you need something more leggy to balance out the bulk of the bull Quote Link to post

I think alot depends on percentage of bull. Bull blood might increase strength and bone but it would reduce speed, and i think if you get a good whippet they can take a hell of a bashing. As for better feet they would be heavier dogs so probabaly more prone to foot injury. A thought of mine was that you would be adding more terrier blood into the whippet blood, so might up the chances of yapper maybe?? just a thought. Good point about the stamina though like chunk said whippets been tried and tested for years. not trying to contredict evrything you said like you said just after peoples opinions ERYRI Quote Link to post
Dan Edwards 1,134
I would think a bull/grey over a whippet would be a much better choice. Quote Link to post

After all thats what it's all about isn't it getting all the info you can and making a decision from there I agree that a slight lack of speed will more than likely occur but if the bull is good enough then i feel that you wouldn't notice the drop enough for it to matter. As for feet i can see your point and agree to a certain degree, but have also seen alot of dogs with not so good feet, but big staffords that run mills and the like and still have good feet ?? not sure about the yapping thing as i suppose i'm lucky mine doesn't do it but can see where your coming from. Maybe it's just i'm biased towards bull's in general Quote Link to post
