Kane 2
I wouldnt think it would be worth risking a dogs legs on frozen ground for a rabbit or 2. Quote Link to post
Royston2 0
If the grounds hard first run your`ll be coming home the dogs might aswell run on gravel no good for them at all Quote Link to post
Guest stantheman
Not trying to be funny but, were going down the same road as the summer time, grounds to hard, to dry, to hot, to wet, to cold, to slippery, I ran my dogs in all condions just got the normal nocks, Stan. Royston2 0
i went out on the horse this morning with the lurchers and it was certainly not -5 and believe me the ground wasn`t great if it had of been minus 5 i would not of taken horse nor dogs out but maybe i`m to soft on me dogs or maybe i want them to work fit as often as they can rather than running them partialy lame there for i know what ever there slipped on they have no injuries to niggle and cause further problems... Royston2 0
To Royston and Kane.............. The ground does not freeze that quickly. Its the first time temperatures have fallen below zero this season. If the ground was frozen i'd like to know why i had 3 stone of mud on my boots i went out on the horse this morning with the lurchers and it was certainly not -5 and believe me the ground wasn`t great if it had of been minus 5 i would not of taken horse nor dogs out but maybe i`m to soft on me dogs or maybe i want them to work fit as often as they can rather than running them partialy lame there for i know what ever there slipped on they have no injuries to niggle and cause further problems... So have your dogs never been lamed ? If a dogs not run it wont get fit ! I'm not talking about running on iron hard ground i was talking about running on ground after a frost. Yes but -5 isn`t after a frost is it, it`s during which is my arguement my dogs have been lame of cause they have for god sake they are bound to and that was running them on ground which wasn`t frozen or hard as nails therefore i won`t run them on shit ground as they can get lame on the best so why risk it only my oppinion mate i aint forceing it either ....I am certainly not a picky hunter if it`s there for the taking i`ll take it but i wont put my dogs at risk for the sake of one run on something if it`s knowingly against the odds whats the point :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
Royston2 0
No worries i was refering to minus 5 condition sean seemed more worried whether the rabbits was feeding rather than the suitabilty of the ground for the dogs so there for i wouldn`t of risked it for a few rabbits either..... Guest Frank
Id say Sean was more interested in lamping hawks for bunnys then running a lurcher. He just wants to know what the bunnys would do in this type of weather. I will say this one more time, it was -5 here last night, over here in IRELAND Frank. Quote Link to post
