can you keep 1 ferret on his own?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I had to have a ferret put down yesterday and he had severe insulinoma...I took him to the vet as I thought he had heat stroke / dehydration of some sort, turns out his temperature was so low his littl4e body was shutting down so they had to put him out of his misery. I am totally gutted about it.....let alone when the vet bill comes through!

I did have 2 hobs...currently separated due to fight at breeding time. They have been separated for just over 2 weeks now and were getting along with out each other fine. But I would have put them back in with each other, and for obvious reason i can't.

so anyway my question is this:

can you keep a single ferret? And of not what should i buy? A jill? Another hob? would another hob have to be vasectomiesed? ....get me?

Cheers

Always best to keep them in pairs mate, they like company. Is your hob castrated, if so get a jill. If you want another hob but dont intend to breed, i would just get them both castrated that way u wont get them fighting and riding each other.Prob cheaper getting a jill though and just getting the 1 male castrated if hes not. Sorry to hear about your fert.

instead of booking him in for the castration if u aint planning on breeding him, book him in for a vesectamy, that way he will still do the busyness with the jill and bring her out of season, where as if he was castrated ud still have to get the jill jab or breed her.

sorry to hear bowt the little guy thats gone to hunt in the sky

Mate i've got a poley Jill that I found a couple of weeks ago. gentle little thing to handle. Unfortunately one of my other Jills hates it and they have to be separated but if you want, you can have her for free. Speak soon. Cheers, D.
