Kye 77
I would only want to do it with the aid of dogs. Quote Link to post

UphillDoc 278
Cold Steal masai spear, and there Boar spear are very good. Never eaten Lion, although I would try it. I hope to dispatch a Lion with a knife, and a Bear with a spear, both with the aid of dogs, before I get to old and die. Kye-You aint gettin any younger, you better get out here soon...of course theres always the chance you wont get any older if ya give it a go... Lion is much tastier than bear, IMO. I have had goes at both lion and bear in caves, its everything you can imagine and then some. If I knew how to post pics/videos I would show some of the close calls... I have been plenty close enough to spear both, but never had a spear, could have knifed the lion Grace had stretched, but was to busy pettin her up and cheerin her on... Take care. 1 Quote Link to post
SHOTGUNSNIPER 47
I would only want to do it with the aid of dogs. I suggest checking the laws about what weapons you are permitted to use in the state you are hunting in.... I killed a lion with a 12 guage and # 4 buck.... It was not a "legal" method of harvest... They could have confiscated the cat and gave me a summons - The game warden let me off with a warning - "We have plenty of those deer eating kitty's just use a rifle or pistol next time" were his parting words..... There was a Englishman here about 15 years ago who was an Archeologist and ancient weapons expert.... He killed a nice mule deer buck with an atlatal during the early archery season - he had license and a tag but none the less the fish and game frowned on it and confiscated the animal and warned him - they didn't prosecute just a warning.... Weird that you should mention spears - I just made a spear head in my metal fab shop yesterday - I get artistic/creative to add a little spice.... I was thinking of using it on an anti next time they come around.... SGS Quote Link to post
12 gauge 39
it takes a lot of guts to go into an almost pitch black cave after a lion, let alone two. I would make sure I have couple of finishing dogs that can back me up, just in case. Dunno but it seems they've used a 38 revolver or something similar, but not sure or i didnt hear the caliber they were using. I would just wanna have a bit more powerful gun maybe a 44 mag 0r 45 as i'm allergic to cats. 1 Quote Link to post
Kye 77
Yeah, it would be interesting to see what would happen! Bear/Lion infront of me, me with nowt but a knife or a spear!!! I wonder what I would do? But then again, that's the VERY reason I want to put myself in that situation. People say "Test the dogs, you gotta test the dogs!" Most of them same people won't put there hand up a pipe and tail a possom!..lol. Doc, your right mate!..sure 'aint getting any younger mate, and I hope I can make a trip out your way for a week or two some time!? Maybe I will bring that Ugly f****r, Edwards with me...no doubt he would try and stick a Grizzly with a butter knife! Jay,.. Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
if the spear is for antis then get a good barb on it(being mountain born .... i'm sure you can smear it in something nasty too!!!!). my biggest worry would have been the ricochet in a cave, but hey. it takes some guts to go in there after a cat like that.i know my arse has been twitching a couple of times crawling through tight bramble runs to standing boar and the dogs the thought comes half way down" what to do if the fecker takes me on in here?"(the answear was a pistol in one hand and leopard crawl!!!!). good video. thanks for sharing. waidmann 1 Quote Link to post

REED1 1
Hi, Read a book a while back, Death in Dark places. About hunting in Africa. There was a chapter about Sasha Siemel, who hunted jaguar (I think) with dogs and a spear. The dogs were local mixed up terriers. Very interesting read. Of course I always thought trying a spear on a boar with dogs would be fasinating. Reed No fear, No meanness, No envy. Quote Link to post

Jaguar are not native to Africa - you must be thinking of Leapord's - I wil google the book & or the author.... You have boars where you live? How do you tell when a pig is in heat? She offers to buy you a drink! Quote Link to post
