Nik_B 3,790
Hi folks I'll be ready to start my application for my FAC in a month or so. I've been doing prone target shooting with .22 rimfire at the local club, this isn't anything like using a sport rifle, the rifles weight 12-14 lb and you shoot wearing a jacket and sling. While I started doing this to meet other shooters I've really been enjoying it and will keep it as a hobby. As I am expecting to become a full member fairly soon I'll be able to put in my FAC. As I don't have any permission to shoot on I suspect they will only let me use the rifles for target shooting to begin with. My question is once I have my FAC what would I have to do to add on shooting vermin on to my ticket appart from obviously getting the permission to start with. Is this what is called a variation? and how much does it cost? Cheers Nick Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
Yes, its called a variation, and its normally £26 per block of alterations. You can apply for as many amendments as you like for you £26. (doesna mean you'll get them though..........) Matty Quote Link to post
Nik_B 3,790
How likely would it be to have the .22 for vermin as well if I don't have any permission yet? Quote Link to post
adamthomas64 1
no chance at all mate Quote Link to post
Nik_B 3,790
Cheers mate was just hoping to save a few quid. It will be a while before I'll need to have the variation so there's no rush. Quote Link to post
CharlieT 32
To add a vermin shooting condition to your fac is free. It would only cost you £26 if you wanted another rifle added to your fac. Quote Link to post
clint 45
If intend to start field shoot, verming, pest & ground game , I think best you have 4 maybe 5 gun on you licence ,you swap & change to suit you need. each change cost £26 !! apply in 1 go & change after , you have field use,as you need. Then 1 fee . You need permision as man above say, for take any rifle in field. calibre as you know 17,22 bolt, semi auto & target rifle & 223 is 5 rifle. This is the start Quote Link to post
Nik_B 3,790
Thanks for the clarification. I'll probably ask for 3 .22 rifles on my FAC. How specific do you have to be? Are you just specifying the caliber or the type of rifle e.g. sport/target? I understand if I wanted a moderator I'd also have to specify that as well. If I had three .22 could I switch them around from target rifle to sport rifle as long as they are the same caliber? For example have two target rifles and a .22 sport then sell one target rifle and buy a sport rifle? I'm not sure how the police look on asking for more rifles to be on the ticket although they can always say no. Quote Link to post
clint 45
Once you have gun permitted, & reason for use . Any 5 (for exsample)can be swapped for any 5 , it called 1 for 1 variation. No charge for this. If ask for x3 22 rimfire ,i possibly think you give reason ,why . As any gun you must have a reason & use. If not , why have ! Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
If you're applying for 3 of the same calibre you need a good reason for holding each one. So for prone target shooting you might have one rifle, maybe another for gallery target, and possibly another for vermin/pest control, though the gallery might also be suitable for field. At the end of the day, if you can prove reasonable cause then they will struggle to turn you down! (doesn't stop them trying though!) Quote Link to post

Thats about the size of it, but as already said if this is your first FAC application you will need to put a strong case for them to give you 3 x .22lr on first grant! Quote Link to post
sy247 0
I am a member of a target club and applied for: .22LR bolt action .22LR semi-auto .357 gallery rifle .36 black powder pistol .44 black powder pistol shotgun This is my first FAC / SCG. I had my interview recently and the FEO said he would bring my license with him when he comes to inspect my cabinet. He indicated there wasn't any issue with what I had applied for. I demonstrated good reason for all calibres - target shooting. If you're applying for 3 of the same calibre you need a good reason for holding each one. I'd say you did well, especially as a .22lr Semi is hardly known as a target tool, but you have not attempted to get 3 x .22lr.. ATB!! Quote Link to post

I've been thinking of getting a BP pistol for a while now. Can you use Pyrodex? Is it hard to get a BP certificate? Are the guns fun to shoot or just plain hassle? Any info would be great because the only venture I ever had in to BP guns was a Harrington & Richards muzzle loading shotgun, didn't work out that well to be honest. John Quote Link to post

Loads of folk up here have them for gallery rifle. One bloke I know has two custom 10/22's for range work. He is not alone in the club. Quote Link to post
