Picking your Brains.

Chaps things have changed on the rim fire front, many users are fitting big object lenses scopes and night vision to rifles like the Brono and others, as a result higher mounts are required and in many cases the manufactures standard stocks are to low in comb. I respect one can pad up the comb to keep a good face weld with the stock.

My point is do you think there is room in the market place to offer an option of having the standard rifle stock cut and a adjustable comb raiser fitted?

And if so what will it stand price wise.

Lets say the cost to cut stock and fit Graco Fully adjustable comb raiser hardware was £180.00 plus postage stock only do you think it would sell.

Say we offered the option at the same time to re-finish a tired stock for a extra £40.00 do you think that would be of interest to you guys.

Work could be done on most popular rim fire models and we could give a guarantied turn round time of 14 working days door to door..

Sounds like enough money to me but cant get the numbers to work any better as most good comb raiser hardware comes from the States.

Your thoughts and views would help please.

Sage there was someone on here doing that work if i remember correctly, cannot remember his useername for the life of me...

i'd say there is a market for it, and for the extra 40 quid to refinish an old stock does sound good...

i'd personally send a few fliers to shooting ranges and clubs.... then you'll gauge better just how viable it would be.

I think this is a difficult one Sage, rimfires are the workhorse of the rifle world, bought cheap,(CZ/BRNO from about £250+new), abused, neglected mostly. There are people that cherish their rimfires but I think in the minority. That said I still think it could be worth pursuing, (what do I know) :D

Hi Sage i am one of though people who fitted a much larger scope on my rimfire and i must say that it never entered my head that the resin i was shooting so badly was that i was lifting my head off the stock to see though my new scope !! it wasn’t until i had enough and put my old scope back on and things were ok again that the thought came into my head so why is that then? I actually when to the trouble of setting up a video cam to see for myself and sure enough that was it! I went through the bit of building up the stock but it looked so awful i took it off and the new scope and just put up with the old one, but at the price you mentioned it would be well worth having my stock done as i still have the new scope in the loft.

This would obviously be of interest to some, but a serious balancing act of money and people I suspect.

Throw any rimfire you like at me with any sort of sights or scope and after a couple of sighters I can shoot it.

It's not like you are getting smacked in the face by a centrefire, these are easy, if you are into serious target work they are all adjustable anyway, for field work the odd 1/4 inch here or there in a shot is generally of no consequence, and most people and ammo vary more than that.

So, a market for sure, but how big is the question, not enormous is my feeling!

But what do I know?

I have no doubt people would be interested what with the lean to wards that horrid "tacti-cool" world of heavy rifles and black and camo everywhere you look, but £40 to re-finish a stock'd be fine I'd say!- I have a 6x42 S&B on my HMR so not for me, but I can definitely see people being interested, probably won't seel like hot cakes but there'd be a steady trickle... (hot cakes? hot cakes are ming- best wait when they're a couple of hours old and have cooled down...) what about offering a service of matching a piece of wood to the existing stock and replacing the comb all together?- perhaps using a try gun to get the height right.....

Cheers

DB

I think if I wanted an adjustable stock - I'd go down the synthetic aftermarket route- but some inletting patterns are not avaialable or so it seems- especially for the Anscutz 1517- so that's where that modification service might come in...
