crayfish bait

just bought 2 crayfish pots off ebay.whats the best bait to load them with?.any advice on location for the trap would be great too.there is loads in the river near me.

Ive used all sorts, If the river is fished a lot a few cubes of luncheon meat do well, other wise fish, chicken skin, work well.

 

I tend to drop mine in close to the edge but in deepish water, found they come out from nooks and crannies in the bank

cheers.hoping to get enough for a feed.can you get multiple catches in one trap.

i think anything oily will do the job bud(spam.luncheon meat,skin,mackeral,bacon etc etc)

i have been thinking of making some traps for crab out of some keep nets i have lying around(i have 3 or four that never get used and i'm on the coast quite a bit in summer).

Have you got your free licence to trap them?. A fisherman here got fined £1600 for trapping crayfish on the Basingstoke canal without a licence.

no.havent got licence.were do i get that????.do i need it to trap them on our own stretch of river???.cheers atb mat

they use salmon heads in the ones on my local syndicate lake,seem to bag up with them mate,no problem,they all attached to a couple metres of rope,pegged on the bank and trap thrown in the margin,
