Perhaps their is a dubious requirement for snap caps at all these days with modern metals for bolts/pins/springs. I have some but seldom bother in the shotguns and never in the rifles.

Perhaps more use in older guns!

Although, I suspect they will do little harm if you want to use them, except a rather expensive set of stainless ones a had that somehow got caught in the ejectors, I think because they were machined a little too small.

Get the plastic if you must, less likelyhood of doing any damage...and cheaper!

NOOOO! ster wellclear of plastic! they are absolutely rubbish!- I had some for a while and one of them cracked the clear casing within a couple of months of use so I bought a set of aluminium ones- a good compromise IMO cheaper then brass ot stainless but much more durable than plastic...

as for my HMR- as I can de-cock it, and I'd be surprised if you couldn't with other CF rifles, there's no need for snap caps....

There you go then, a multitude of views on forums..:thumbs:

plenty of view's. helped no end! i've made a couple for an old aya-witch i'm not to fussed about but it is old so like to let the pins relax. i borrow my dad's lanbur now and again, that probally around 20 years old. it is in mint condition, me old man is funny about his kit. not a spot on it! a few weeks ago i took it claying and the bottom barrel miss fired 3 times i think. since i have bought some cheap plastic snap caps to let the pin springs relax it has not misfired since. fingers crossed! dad has always stored it pins cocked! 20 odd years for a lenbur is not bad a. i think i'll get some brass ones for my browning gti when i get it! got a deposit down on it. wont be long!!
