Spinning

Off spinning for pike tomorrow, 30lb braid through to 25lb trace. Any ideas what type of lure should work best now its warming up? From what i've heard, shallow-diving plugs will work better now, but i've got spoons and others. Its not a small lake but it's heavily stocked with pike, carp and silverfish. Pike over 29lb. There are a few features, reedbeds, underwater diving board support etc.

All lures from shallow to deep will take fish at this time of the year. Thats what you have to do, find out what zone and depth the fish are feeding at. 5 Casts in each peg, then change the lure.. start of deep or working the bottom, even bottom bounce them. Then come up a foot of so off the bottom. Next fish the middle reaches, and so on until you are on the surface. Also take into account the size of your lure/spinner as well as the color...Then alter the speed, from slow to quick, from jerks to straight. A lure session can last for as long as you want it to... It could take a copule of hours before you find the right formular....

Well maybe you use bigger plugs more, as you now have this theory. Plus it depends what you call small and what you call big. I have had pike to 30lb+ on very small spinners, plus when wobbling baits, i find the smaller produce quicker, and just as good fish..

 

I fish a privately owned loch on an estate in scotland. You cant tempt a fish with a lure over 8", everything falls to small stuff, strange i know but true...

I fish a privately owned loch on an estate in scotland. You cant tempt a fish with a lure over 8", everything falls to small stuff, strange i know but true...

 

true mate used to use them alot on are canal and do good on them but water was very coloured ,jerk bait about 8 inch and get small jacks in the plenty ,another lake i fished alot was they wouldnt take anything apart from a small pink plug about 3 inches long,but they seemed to hit this almost every time ,took a long time to suss that water out but got there in the end ,i agree with what your saying rfyl ,you got to find out what they like feeding on on any water and then your in with a chance trail and error at first on any virgin water to you untill you get it sussed as every place seems to be different on what the fish like to take ,and then when youve got it sussed keep the info to yourself unless a member of the hunting life ask,s of coarse

Lol, not that secretive these days, as i do quite a bit of writing, i dont name waters as it wouldnt be fair. And i was also a guide, so had to share quite abit of imfo to the paying customer...

Every now and then but as a rule i dont troll as deep as the ferox like to hunt. I did have a few seasons on them but to be honest, the buzz just wasnt there for me...

 

I always had some cards up my sleeve. I still do,lol. Cant give everything away....
