Aaron Proffitt 142 Posted April 22, 2010 Report Share Posted April 22, 2010 Up until recently I always used a .22 as I figured it was a must have for hunting ...until I began to read here some of the posts and logic behind it in reference to the .177 . Now a .177 is all I ever use....with the exception of some of our bigger critters like jackrabbit and racoon. Then I switch to a .25. But for gathering pigeons and hassenpeffer and squirrels ....177 is my go to gun. rossy08 33 Posted April 23, 2010 Report Share Posted April 23, 2010 HI all iv used .22 for years and always thought it to be the best, however i'm now a full .177 convert the flight path is better, ie me and my mate both raise our guns on the same target then im always the first to fire,this is due to the cogs in my mates head still turning working out the didtance and where to put the cross hairs. iv not noticed much impact differance,but up to yet iv not got anywhere near the amout of kills with the 177 as i have with 22 over the years. so this is undetermind as yet, i do feel a little more comftable takeing the longer shots with the 177 tho. In regards to the shop i must admit that i sell 4 times the amount off 22 guns but i think that this is due to new people to the sport often beliving that the 22's are more powerfull and the only gun to use for hunting, despite me trying to exsplane the differances. happy hunting with what ever your choice Andy Quote Link to post

Anyway... .177 = Little faggoty gay paper punchers calibre, also used by male hunters with female brains incapable of working out pellet drop. .22 = Heavier, butch hunting man's calibre. Trickier to use due to different arc of trajectory, but still well within the limits the most basic male orientated brain. Scientifically proven BTW... Quote Link to post

Alexisrouzee 6 Posted April 23, 2010 Report Share Posted April 23, 2010 i know alot of people who hunt successfully with both .177, .22 and .20, there is a real debate going on in all the mags with ''which calibre is best for hunting'' and i honestly believe its down to personal preference at the end of the day.... all caliber's will kill any small quarry with a well placed head shot out to 35m, easy!! a good hunter with confidence in his weapon and his marksmanship principles will go alot further with a clean kill..... a .177 has a flatter traj than a .22 but is evenly matched with the .20 but the .20 has more energy transfer at the end over a .177. i would say down to choice!!
