We have a walk and stand driven shoot last season we incubated extra pheasants(to top up the bought in poults and the wild bird population). and added some partridge to the drives we also brought these on from eggs.So for next season we are having a go at early incubation of a small stock of pheasants to put onto the rough shoot area of our permission we also intend to place a couple of pens in these areas and stock them with any partridges we can raise over the amount we already place in the drives. In addition to these we are going to buy in some day old duckling and make use of an old holding area and pen. The extra cost and work for these extra birds will be payed for by the lads on the shoot who work there dogs for the driven shoot.

THE AIM OF THIS DIY IS

A--To make use of as much of the ground that we rent as we can.

B--The rough shooting over the dogs can take place on the alternative weekends to the driven and is a reward to the lads who work there dogs for the driven days.

C--Even though we feed ponds and streams for duck flighting the guns in the driven shoot don't stay after the shoot day to have a go at the duck so by having a few callers about the place we hope to hunt up more duck on the rough days.

D--AS our wild stock of birds and rabbits have been hit hard this year by the weather we hope these measures will help keep the rough shoot and the driven shoot days full and varied. .atb

.Thats the plan :whistling: so do you have any D.I.Y.to do on your shoot and what do you hope to gain from it.

the plan this year is to put down 50 duck and around 200 pheasant(all bought as poults).

the pens and feeders will need looking at in due time.

we want to make a few man made earths to aid the fox controll and i will be knocking up a few traps(the earths and traps may be combined).

we should be getting a few new guns to make the numbers we think we are able to carry.

i would love to rear some partridge to release and will this year.

its not a big shoot but we have some good days and pisstaking is great
