fox

wow now thats a tester....if memory serves me correct it was actually on Peter Street, which im sure was off Wardour Street where the Interpid Fox was....i may well be wrong though as i was a Terry Lawless man so wasnt aloud to mix with the enemy biggrin.gif ....within 2 minutes of Ronnie Scotts club i know that much icon_redface.gif ....Duff was a good man and got some great fights for brits he did wonders for Charlie Magri,s career and my old pal Boza Edwards would have never got a title shot without Duffs devious knowledge.

As regards Sibson....he was from my time and a very strange character indeed, very little self belief for such a strong powerful guy i remember when he beat Kaylor at Wembley Arena around 84/85 he clearly outpointed him yet congratulated Mark and told him well done for the win before the points were added up....he had very little confidence in himself which was a shame.....i didnt like his fight later on against Dennis Andries he should never have tried to move up Dennis was a great lad and would fight until he had no fight left in him but talented he was not,yet he looked it that night against Sibson,i cant remember if he stopped him or it went to points now but i know it was one of those fights you just dont like to see.

As for Herol Graham he was a typical Brendan Ingle fighter with the hands down, a lot of them lads out of Sheffield have taken on the style and if you saw inside Brendans gym you would see why biggrin.gif

NASH I used to go in there am sure it was second floor right facing hammer house i used to get all the old fight posters from the gym deni manncini used to be duffs corner man good fella deni , used to go to the allstars to train , or the paddington boys club , been in brenden,s gym many times , we had a kid in the nasbc finals at batley i was warming are lad up on the pads this little dark skined kid pushed him out the way and unleashed about a dozen shotts at the padds nassem hammed lol

first saw naz fight when he was about 9 or 10 at carlton forum in nottingham he was a showman then danced his way to the ring and did a back flip when he won ... gto can you remember slugger o`toole -- fidel smith and a lad from burton derby way brown ? and chris richards all good am lads that turned pro gnash here is one for you scrap iron ryan ..

the Amutures had some craking lads in the 80s'90s the juniour ABA were all ways in derby , chris richards rings abell , there was a traverling kid call levi he was hard a nails with loads of abilty , am trying to remember the lad in the aba finals

another traverling lad from over sheffield way , scrap iron what ever happend to him

neville browns the lad i was thinking of i think he won 5 abas .. the phoenix where froch came from had some good lads did you ever go to the commadore in nottinghamthey put good shows on i think its gone and been replaced by a tesco now .. my lad turned it in he`s gone kick boxing now i cant get into it like the boxing ..

You may well be right mate i forget now Terry Lawless would go up the wall if we so much as looked at Duff their was major rivalry between them Jarvis Astaire and Barret i once witnessed Jarvis threaten to kill Duff over a matter concerning Frank Brunos early career,Frank was a loyal guy though and stuck with Terry who never had a bad bone in his body and was a much more genuine man than the others.I still see Frank and Gary Mason to this day it was different back then it was more a case of gyms and areas versus other gyms and areas whereas today everyone is out for themself.Shame but its just the way of the world now i suppose.Im proud to have been part of arguably the most succesful gym this country ever had at the Royal Oak....Charlie Magri,Maurice Hope,Jim Watt,John Stracey,Frank.....all world champions that came out the Royal Oak as well as Kaylor and all the others that didnt win world titles.

Denni I havent spoke to in years since his fallout with Jimmy Tibbs,Jimmys a friend from way back so loyalties dicate but no doubt about it Denni was probably the best cut man in the game and could also get lads in great shape which not many people new.

As for maurice Hope he moved back to the West Indies years ago and lives the life of riley, same cant be said for Dennis Andries unfortunately who life wasnt as kind to or Charlie Magri who now works for Haringey Council !...He lost his pub and sports shop in a bad divorce and its been downhill since....shame the way it go,s sometimes.

Regarding the amateurs....keep an eye out for a young heavyweight named Wadi Camacho....he was up in Sheffield with Rob Mcracken a few months back being assessed for the 2012 olympics ;) ...what a talent.

All the best lads.

Indeed he did Denni had the shop round the corner from Duffs old office,Beak Street if i remember right, yes Denni died 5 or 6 years ago he was a good man and had great knowledge,i never spoke with him for years though i remember Nigel Benn saying he would never have beat Mclellan without Denni in the corner....he came from a big boxing family but never boxed himself, strange how it go,s.

Yes mc craken was a good fighter i never knew much about him as he was north of watford :D didnt he retire after injury im not sure.

The Blind Beggars still there but no ring above, its all different round there now there even trying to pull York Hall down....if thats pulled down in my life time that will be the final nail in the coffin for moving abroad for me !!
