Seen Hawcrofts dogs in action, they are very good dogs, is old dog Toby, was bred by my goodfriend Typp Ratcher, he was an excellent allround dog and has he says he could take daytime winter hares not bad for a first cross, his other dog Joe is the father to my little collie greyhound bitch Gwen, who is a decent little dog, Joe, has been a decent dog in his time, also catching many daytime hares. My own personal favourite has to be my old reverse threequarter fell collie greyhound bitch Kim, who sadly had to be put to sleep a few weeks ago, she is also out of Typp,s line, she stood at only 20.5 inches to the shoulder , very lightly built but very quick indeed , Hawcroft has seen her work, she put alot of so called good dogs to shame on the long ears, her final tally was 113 , not bad for a collie saturated lurcher, she was a good rabbiting, mooching and ferreting bitch, with bags of stamina, she wasn,t used as a point and aim dog like alot of lurchers, of today are, incedently i know the lad who bred Bird,s dog, he is a very goodfriend of mine, and he has done alot over the years. regards collie john.

ye you cant beat a good half cross i like your dog bird did you breed him yourself?

is he quick off the mark for daytime rabbits mate?

 

Hi mate, he was bred local by a lad by me. Yes he is very quick of the mark,there is a few on here that have seen him run, and he fast for a 1x colliexgrey. He as good wind and great agilty, he really dont miss much.

id believe it, he really looks well. a good collie is hard to beat,he looks durable too, youl get a good few seasons out of him id say(injury wise).with half working collie he must have great recovery.does he ever stalk on the lamp ?how many runs in a night roughly could he do comfortably?

his best night was 27 from 30, does 20's most times, good wind i think. He runs straight down the beam, dont stalk. With alot of colliexgreys as they get older ,some might pick there runs.Blaze my last colliexgrey never did, and Bryn dont so i might be lucky so far.? but you never know do you.

He's the spit of my old 5/8 colliex bitch, she was a cracking dog never took big numbers, but around these parts a night out with lamp you'd be lucky to see a dozen rabbits, so it's more about quality than quantity around here and she never let me feel nothing more less proud, which what it's all about.

In the pick posted was after her first night with lamp. her first slip she tried picking up the rabbit with her feet, which left me embarrassed and my friends laughing. She then went on to catch her first rabbit and hare plus another of each in her next half dozen slips and proper wiped the smiles of my friends faces, she was my first dog and probably not the best rabbit dog but definatly my best dog

yes just a smaller version of him. And he Blaze was 3/8 collie 5/8 grey. Its nice to get big bags, but unless you travel to find game, most people can only catch what they have local.? I never really got big bags of rabbits (dozen) or so with Blaze, but he was spot on with red coats. And i got more of a buzz running them than rabbits, he was a good honest dog.

DO you know the lad who bred him RAY,WHATS HIS NAME RAY,HAS HE HAD GOOD DOGS HIMSELF RAY AND HAS HE DONE ALOT RAY.

Whas speaking to the lad this morning he is called Craig Prior, he,s from Cannock, he,s done alot over the years, incidently he wanted to know as Bird,s dog Brynn, had retreived many daytime hares, or any night time hares, and what his biggest haul of hares where, with Brynn, we both agreed a decent bred first cross or line bred collie greyhound, should be able to retreive hares consistenly throughout the season. regards collie john.

Good little rabbiting dogs are collie whippets, there are very quick off the mark, very agile and they have enough brains with it. regards collie john.
