NV Advice for ratting

Recommended Posts

Bit of a change for me as the farmer has asked us to get rid of some rats for him, so I have swapped my NV off my centrefire rifle onto my air rifle :

If anyone has any tips on ratting with NV feel free to let me know any do's and don'ts, baits etc.

HI there pal

with nv im not to shure what to tell you as i only ever used it the once and that was for bunnies.

but from what iv read on hear peanut butter sperad on to things mars bars,or an choc would work for that matter.

by far the best idea i'v read was the dog food, get a cheep can or 2 put some holes in the tins and the step on it so the jucies come out a little then sit and shoot the buggers as they enjoy there last supper.

some of the lads will be around soon to help you with the night vision im shure

happy hunting

Looks like the 'Fast fire 10' or Rapid 10 or something.

Terry Doe did a review on video once. Bit like a pump action to cock and load. Its a PCP if I remember?

It is fairly old now It is about 13 yrs old but it was the dogs nutz in its time lol. It is a Skan Swift .22, here is a bit of info on them I dug out :

· The mainframe is precision machined anodized black aluminium , together with laser and water cut steel parts zinc blacked instead of being blued and handcrafted English walnut furniture.

· The design incorporates an integral 14 shot magazine. The magazine itself is located on the upper left side of the action. Pellets are pre-loaded in a single row, a lightly sprung follower maintaining contact as each shot is placed. This retracts into a cavity within the butt when not required. Once the magazine is primed, all it takes is a pump of the sliding fore-end to pick up a pellet and load it into the bore.

· The twelve groove precision rifled Walther barrel is 17" including the 3 stage cobra silencer taking the overall length to approx 32"

· Like all Skans it takes down nicely for storage in its own abs storage case.

· Unscoped weight is just shy of 7lbs but it feels lighter at the shoulder due to its compact design

· The trigger is a single stage unit with adjustable release weight . It sits presently at 2-3lb.

· A manual safety catch is incorporated crossbolt style into the front of the trigger guard.

· The power source is the 0.1 litre air bottle housed within the hollow butt. Fitting is easy, threading onto the exhaust valve until a painted yellow marker indicates correct alignment. The bottle is charged to 2800psi enough for approx 60 shots.

· The butt is the plainest of the three sections locating into the action with two pins and locked off by knurled knob at the base. The adjustable butt pad finishes things off nicely.

· The pistol grip features subtle contours to assist trigger control and has stippled sides. The fore-end is also stippled to assist grip, again with well shaped ergonomic contours. The slide action fore-end is fast and smooth.
