New gsp coming soon

Hi all, getting my first gundog in few weeks. Dog gsp. I have owned dogs before mind but never a gundog. I have bought a few dvds and books, My friends who work there dogs have all given me advice, and i have spent many years waiting for this moment, to aquire my own dog. Any advice, hints or tips? cheers

I would advise geting the gsp training videos by Tam Brechney I think you will find the advise very straight forward and in the proper stages.

Put the time in and you will be fine LB, but the main thing is enjoy it mate and keep us informed how you are getting on.

Will do, I will do a sort of diary if you like, step by step like. I just think they are an awesome dog, the have a lovely temperament and my mates that own them rate them.

I'm pretty (in fact very) new to this myself, I've got a copy of the versatile Gundog which is all HPR breed traing. It seems to be very well written and the training "seems" to be working. Its by a bloke called Guy Wallace...might be worth a look.

they are very elegant dogs and a pleasure to shoot over,love em.

get the basic obiedience sorted and follow the books/dvd you have and you should have no trouble(no more than the rest of us anyway!!!!!).

enjoy the pup and get him in the water when the weather warm,train her for all the fields of work you can imagine and a couple more and you will have a partner for the field.

what work are you intending for him? (rough shooting.stalking.blood trailing???)

a bit of rough shooting, and just picking up on shoots. I am planning on getting a air rifle so use him for some work with that to. Just want to train him so he will be spot on. It`s nice to have a project!
