Had a brand new HW100KS about a week now and WOW what a gun. Anyway when i pump it up with a new fx 3 stage pump to 200bar on the pump gauge the guns gauge is reading 185bar so i stop at that. What is the most accurate the gun or pump gauge

hi gaz

dont hold me to any of this as i may be wroung.#

im my mind or if it were my gun, i would be inclined to go with the reading from the gun gauge as this is reading the pressure in the guns res, where as the pump is reading the pump gauge and hose, as im shure your awear the more you pump the harder it gets due to the resistance of the one way valve being held shut by the pressur in the res. this could be why you pump says 200 and the gun 185. the pump is giving you a higher reading due to the resistance.

like i say i might be a mile out with the answer or just this once i might be right, see what other people think 2 tho pal.

all the best

Your not that far out there Andy :D

The gun as you say is telling you what pressure the gun is at inside its air cylinder.

The pump is measuring what the pressure is in the pump and hose line.

I would run with whats in the gun rather than whats in the hose. Eventually they will equalize (or thats my interpretation of the physics of it).

Find out though what pressure your gun gives the most consistant shots with. In my case 185 bar is the most pressure I fill it to even thought the air cylinder will take up to 300 bar (for safety reasons) and the manufacturers say 200 bar is the max fill.

If I go over 190, the ft/lbs goes all over the place (allways down) , as do the pellets

When in its sweet spot (185 to 120 bar) I get more than 40 good consistant shots at 11ft/lbs

nice one phantom

nice to know some of the physics lessons paid off :11:

like phantom says tho find the sweet spot. if i give my s300 its full 200 bar the the first ten shots are all over. most of them tend to be at 13.5flb witch is not good if i were to get stoped on my way out.

on full fill she like an elephant gun and a pea shooter all in one, :hunter: so she gets 170bar and shes 11.97 all the way.

happy hunting

Just my opinion , but I would get the power dropped on the gun mate. If you get it tested by the police for any reason you WILL be in possession of a section 1 firearm. With all the consequences that go with that.

Hi there mate

i'm more that awear of the implications of the first few shots out of the gun. its a difficult on as i dont really want to drop the power as the other 60 odd shots will then be down when they are nice and consistand at around the 11.9 mark just because of the first 10 or so shots, exspecily when i dont fill the gun to max to avoide this. but im fully awear of what your saying its been on my mind for a while now.

all the best buddy

I would like to run mine at 11.9 mate too.

but I know that if I did then a different pellet type or weight would put all the shots over the limit. At 11.9 you are only 2 or 3 fps off the limit, even a lighter or heavier pellet in your tin could put you over.

Dont forget the police can check with any pellets they so wish, not just the ones you choose to use.

Not trying to be a nuisance mate, just would hate to see anyone fall foul of the law.

Its up to you in the end.

no its is apreciated mate dont mind people trying to help.

i use 2 different pellets but the grains are identical on both. and they give the same readings.

thank you for the help, but i work with guns and have a very good idea on the laws.

thanks again pal

  if you know your pressure at which it is legal then you prob only pump it to that and like you say all 60 are at that so happy days. alot of people talk about the plod taking your gun for testing........ now....... do they take your pellet that your using at that time or is it at their discretion to use any pellet they want say like a rabbit magnum (30.1 grain!!) and test it with that!!? i was under the impression they would use the ones you are using??

Hi Alex,

The police have to send it to their national testing centre for it to be offically chronoed.

They are allowed to use any pellet the wish, but they use a range of commonly available pellets from lightweight to heavyweight.

they use a number of shots per pellet type and take an average (from what I remember) but if its consistantly over with any, they will class it as a FAC job.

A Fire Arms Officer, did a very good write up as to the entire testing process over on the BBS a while ago.

Hi Alex,

I wouldn't let it go over 11.5 with any pellet

My own S200 is 11 ft/lbs and is more than adequate and has produced good kills at 45 yards

If you have a gun that is running at 11.5 with a 15.5 grain, then your FPS is 577.9

If you were to stick a 21 grain Bis Mag in then the power should be the same, but the projectile would slow to 496.5

However if you wanted the Bis Mag pellet to move as the same FPS as the lighter pellet, and adjusted the speed to compensate, then your ft/lbs would increase to 15.58 making the gun illegal.

ps as always I am open to correction on anything
