That guy from cornwall beat one of the coursing lads off here in a match run on the fens, with he's 22inch collie/whippet/greyhound

Love the sense of humour timber... collie/whippet/greyhound running hares on the fen. :notworthy::clapper::whistling:

had the same breeding 30 odd years ago.my first lurcher and as a young boy i was never in.that wee dog would run all day.thinking back it really could stay on

Ihave only ever known and seen collie/whip/greys working at what they are best at, rabbits on the lamp. I hear of people reminising about how there collie X used to kill hares in there hundreds over a season and the big flat land. No disrespect here to anyone but they are dreams. I am not saying to kill the odd hare here and there but to just go out strictly hare coursing with a collie/whippet/Greyhound on fenland. :clapper::clapper::thumbs:

Getting back to the topic seriously, My nephew has a good bitch always ko`ing 2/3 3/3 in the dead of winter and she is just 23" tts

i had a bitch that was 23 inch. the mother was an out and out hare killer that was bred to a well bred whippet greyhound. this dog catches 2/3 and 3/3 regular in winter. iv seen alot of dogs this size making good hare dogs.

here and there YES.dreams NO.as for in there hundreds, who said that.and the fens were not the only place hares were coursed.no disrespect intended, but if you have not seen every dog of this breed then you cannot call former owners ,dreamers.ps what were we running before the 80s.and before im accused of anything,i agree that this cross is not the ideal cross for out and out hare coursing.some did make the grade.no offence intended

I think it would be easier on fenland for my beddy whippet collie grey. Once she is on a hare in an open space she can stay all day. Fair enough I've only ran them on lamp propperly so far but in big fields and she can stay right on it and put a good course up, she only 22 tts. If she has space she can kill them. Obviously not a coursing dog but she does well.

it seems like that if your dog dont run fen hares then other coursed hares are classed in the same league as rabbits :whistling::whistling:

is a fen rabbit then harder than catching a hare in a different location?

seems to be all nonsese to me.

anyway great to hear from other folk that have small dogs that could catch hares pre-ban

as it not the size of the dog but the size of the heart that the dogs possess

ps have not killed that many but the bro,s dog who is only 22" has killed 18 hares this season.

i would say one of the most popular crosses now saluki type to good grew for hare dogs ,of the [bANNED TEXT] blood they can be very handy dogs for sure, you dont need a big dog to kill a hare , but if the grounds heavy then the big dog usaly if bred [bANNED TEXT] comes into his own ,but if the grounds firm some of these litle dogs can get them quick ,not into small dogs lack abit weight for me ,but the [bANNED TEXT] type can be handy, especaily if they can turn and run abit with the head up rather than flat out without a brain etc
