28" vs 30" Barrel Length

Recommended Posts

Never heard of it before in my life mate.....!!!!! and i'm over 6 2"

if its for a hunting rifle i'd suggest its very long at 28 or 30 inches...

if target, then 30 inches

varminting gun 28 would be fine.

Snap.

I'm 6' 2" and started out with a 30" 682 sporter and was always told that (30" sporter) was an ideal alrounder for someone my height. I ended up chopping it in for a 28" game silver pigeon as I shoot a lot more feathers/fur than clays and I'm chuffed to bits with it.

I would say that 30/32" is better for general clays trap and DTL stuff but for sporting clays and game shooting the faster swing of a 28 is better suited - thats how it's worked for me anyhow. The lighter weight of a game gun helps when you're carrying it for most of the day too - I wouldn't say I notice any greater recoil for the lighter weight either. My silver pigeon 28" gets used for everything - pheasants in the winter, clays & pigeons in the summer as well as lamping rabbits and foxes (I use 36g BB's for foxes and again, the recoil is not that bad at all).

Cheers,

Dan

the gun should match the man as far as possible,a small man should obviously not have a gun with extra long barrels, they will easily pick up snow and mud and he will find them unwieldy, conversely a large man should not have a gun with short barrels, they will tend to look and feel un-balanced
