PINNACLE 2,297
Where do you stand if your dog takes out a fox in your garden and it was seen by busy body neighbour? This has not happened but it was too close for comfort and in broad daylight. Can you send a dog out after a fox in your own garden? if not how can you deter a fox from coming into the garden? I have heard of putting human hair in socks but does it work? especially if this fox ignorers the scent of our dog and that of next doors. He is after our chickens and now he knows where they are I am sure he will be back so he has to be put off for good or got. Quote Link to post
TAXI DRIVER 549
Your dog`s not hunting if he`s in your own garden and a fox comes there and your dog kills it.But if you were seen to let your dog out of the house onto a fox deliberately, you would be in the sh-t.Your better off keeping your dog kenneled out near your chickens. waidmann 105
it would not be legal to "course" the fox even in your garden. if the dog was to take an evening piddle and the fox was there then i guess you may have some explaining to do if reported but at the end of the day who would expect a fox in the garden??????????? you may find the dog will have trouble catching the fox in a small garden and you wouldn't want the dog coursing it through the neighborhood. i would try to catch the fox by snare/live catch trap(maybe have a word with whoever owns the land behind the garden for some permission ).there are some pest controllers on here who can help you out no doubt,it would help if you put up a location, then someone with an open fac may be able to help you too depending on the circumstances etc. a light on sensor would put him off a few times but urban foxes will tolerate alot! hence human hair etc may keep him away for a day or two but he will be back. waidmann Quote Link to post

turbotyke 62
iv got the same problem we have got atleast 4 comeing on our garden we have a lane at the back of the house and there set is on there they come up and sit near you when your on the garden and they go up to the dogs in the kennel and just stand there it drives them insane so i dont think a light or dogs in a kennel near your chickens will help because they know the dogs cant get to them so i think ill also get some snares. the foxes are all over the streets my partners mums boyfriend was blowing his tyre up on the car and a fox was sat with him he said he tryd to scare it off but it just took a cupel of steps back but didnt go so they need sorting Edited April 20, 2010 by turbotyke Quote Link to post
PINNACLE 2,297
Thanks for the answers it is as I thought and you are right don't want my dog to kill a fox in the garden and I don't want the s$$t that might come from it either. I will try and find a pest controller but they will have problems as I think shooting it is out due a number of reasons, the uncertanty of when it might come back, the size of garden (100' wide and 40' deep), I have had the neihbour at the back moaning about me shooting my almost silent air rifle, garden layout proves difficult to have any cover and the windows make a racket when you open them. Belive me it took some doing trying to get a trap wise rat last year. We also have a road albeit private running down the rear boundary. A trap or snare will have to be dog and child safe so I will have to wait and see what they come up with. For now the dog is out all day as a deterant and the chickens start Taekwondo on Thursday. Wild_and_Irish 11
Same position you'd be in if a small dog or cat comes in to your yard/garden, you're not liable since the dog was on your property and you didn't slip him, nothing you could do about it. Quote Link to post
