waidmann 105
you can buy the rigs at the tackle shops bud. what are you wanting to fish for and when? i often go to conwy and fish the estury or the coast (orm, llandudno, penrin bay) but we use different tackle depending on what we are fishing for and with what bait(just like course fishing). the best of luck to you bud waidmann Quote Link to post
niall_b73 41
realistically speaking i think i would like to try and catch mself some pollack. but anything would be a bonus even a days fishing for dogfish would pass a day. like i said above it is all new to me so all info above is valuable to me. even knowing where to fish and what for would benifit me, different habbitats for different fish niall_b73 Quote Link to post
Fat-Ferret 857
Dont buy rigs! Make your own, there always better quality and far cheaper too! I tie all my own and put them on Eva Rig Winders, very handy and dont tangle. A good book on rigs is "Rigs and Baits by Sea Angler magazine, Its on amazon for less than a tenner, shows you how to tie every rig you need. I caught this on a rig I made! Quote Link to post

Fat-Ferret 857
FUCKK ME FAT FERRET THAT LOOKS HUGE DOES IT TAKE LONG TO LAND THEM PAL? That one is NOTHING compared to the one I caught a few nights after...But alas, I had no phone to get a picture. A man fishing near me got a few shots on a film camera and took my address to post them, but they never arrived!! The one in the picture was 22.5lb & the one I didnt get a shot of, tipped the scales at 44.6lb! He was a monster, with a temper to match! Sometimes they can be easy to land, it depends on where you catch them really, in round rocks and there a nuisance, if they get there tail or head round anything you havent a hope of getting them out! I have had a few strap congers from the shore on light gear and they are great fun, and a job to drag in as well! I do take conger fever no and again and spend fruitless hours after them, and sometimes it pays off! Although I have caught some good'uns...My favourite was quite a hefty little strap conge who took a sand eel bait on a float! Edited April 20, 2010 by Fat-Ferret Quote Link to post

Fat-Ferret 857
They are still very much alive in Mullaghmore....I have caught a few there, last summer. As for eating them, I eat the odd one, and they are tasty, I cut them into goujons, batter and deep fry, very nice. Quite like monkfish Quote Link to post

supersam 64
i dont take pics of my sea fishing gear but scent,s pic is a good example for a beach casting setup. you can use multipable hooks like droppers in fly fishing and depending in what your after be it cod, flounder, whiting, bass e.t.c then the hook size will vary as will bait selection.. if your after something that passes the time and to get some quick sport then rock fishing into deep water for wrasse is great fun.a cigar float using hardback crab or barnecles can be productive. also rock fishing using a clonakilty lure is deadly for pollack. iv found also that darker lures red/black very good for pollack, also jellied eels of different colours using a jig head which is a hook with a weights attatched near the eye to be very good. i have done all these types but find plugging for bass off rocky points to be my greatest pleasure in sea fishing now. a light spinning rod with 12lb line and a rapala, yazuri floating plug are deadly. are many diffenrt types and colours so try em all and find whats best for your area. most important find a spot where there alot of bass which should not be hard as there near everywhere now and give em a go.
