Malt 379
Tick pickers from the vet £5. Either that, or a sharp pair of tweezers. be sure to grab the head of the tick and remove the whole thing by pulling and twisting in one motion.

Hollie 21
If you haven't removed them before or seen them removed and you dont have a tick removing tool in the house another good way of killing them is to smother the base of them, where they meet the dogs skin, SMOTHER in petroleum jelly, they will suffocate and fall out
Geoff.C 0
Tick pickers are best, or tweezers with cranked ends so you don't touch / squash the tick's abdomen. Whatever you do, ensure the tick is not squashed, or it will inject tainted blood back into your dog. Best to leave them on until you have the right tackle for removal, and maybe have someone who knows, demonstrate how to ensure complete removal. After removal, chuck them in a tin of water, or as I do, bash them with a hammer!
mouse 282
get between thumb and first finger and twist the whole of the tick.that way you get body and legs.if only got a few ticks on them as you say, people say touch the tick with a hot match head and it makes them release.would take forever for me but give it a go if your dog only has a few on it.cheers mouse. Foxgun Tom 75
The ones referring to vaseline, tweezer's and petroleum jelly etc: If ticks are attempted to be removed incorectly and are put under stress they regurgitate their stomach contents back into the host and infect!! (always use a tick removal tool) Wendy Fox the chairperson of BADA-UK is a close personal friend she is paralysed from the waist down and registered blind all because of infections and Lymes disease caused by ticks her future prognosis is worse. BADA-UK a registered charity was set up to raise awareness of tick borne infections and to educate people in the safe removal of ticks therefore avoiding infection and serious sometimes fatal illness Tom Ps: Ticks can carry over 300 types of viral infection, symptoms inc: headaches, aching joints, skin disorders, tiredness, tremors eyesight problems, and the worst scenario Death!! FightTheBan 1,147
Well said Tom. In my experience you can never be too carefull with ticks - one dog with bartonellas disease and a 2 k vet bill. Every dog owner/countryside person should visit the Bada-uk website where the info could one day save you or your dogs life. Cheers FTB
tracyb -Doglost 2
Ive always used tick puller from vets -especially after holiday in Wales & dogs were full of the blighters. Have also spent a good hour with whisky & cotton bud- which works if you dont get bored and fall asleep first
