Weight v Size

Recommended Posts

Nings All.

After a bit of advice and experienced comment.

I have a 17mnth Vizsla (m)

He weighs 21.1 kg which is at the lower end of the weight scale for its breed.

Whether this is the weight for show dogs or working dogs? I don't know!

He is a working dog (and a good one at that) but he looks on the skinny side compared to others I've seen out and about.

I thought he might have put a few pounds on now that it is out of the shooting season but he seems to have topped out at 21.1 kg

He gets walked twice a day and is as quick as lightning he doesn't have worms and at his last check up the vet said he's just a fit dog and nothing to worry about.

Its just a niggling concern that he looks on the skinny side.

Does anyone have any knowledge on other vizsla that look like they're skinny or do just have a dog with the Kate Moss gene?

Thanks in advance

Looks fit as a fiddle to me bud! Got the same problem with my lab', sometimes during the season i think that he is looking thin but his pace, stamina and jumping abilities all seem to prove me wrong. I tried a few times to feed him before i worked him but he just wouldn't work 100% so he obviously cant graft on a full stomach.

I just had to put it down to the build of him, you can see every muscle in his body.

Anybody thats got anything too say soon shuts up when they see him work.

My Lab bitch is the same mate, she is 19kg but only 21.5", but to see her move she has speed, staminar and fantastic hunting drive so its not conserning me at all.

If the dog has plenty of these i wouldnt worry swampy, what height is he ?

i had this problem with my youngest spaniel for the first two years no matter how much i fed him he seemed to me to be under weight, again the vet said he was just a fit dog nothing to worry about, he is very very active dog always working and on the playing fields trying to catch the lurcher, towards the end of this season he has started to look better built still no excesive fat just better built. im sure your dogs fine pal looks spot on to me.

Ok lads (and lasses?).

Thanks for the input.

A bit more placated now.

Haven't measured his height against weight supidly!

He's on two large bowls of dry biscuit mixed with chappy. But he doesn't wolfe it down takes his time.

Watched him last night up against a rabbit and couldn't help thinking he didn't have the bulk.

However I'm sure like someone says when he calms down at 2 or 3 yrs he might put a little on.

Thanks again
