dog attack little kid killed :(

Recommended Posts

Its another tragic waste of a young life. Not long ago a jrt mauled a young child- it never made the news.

We were always brought up with dogs- but we had rules in place. We dont know what set this off & probably never will- I dont know what arresting the member of the family will acheive- he probably suffering enough as it is.

But WHY are idiots still breeding aggressive dogs- pits, mastiff/staffx etc- I see them every week- time bombs waiting to blow.

This family will never get over what has happened and its so un necessary ANY child & dog needs supervising. I have 3 dogs & one 1 I would trust to be left alone with a child. Children and dogs are unpredicatable.

I remember a staffy attackign a child -the dog was pts - the vet found a pencil stuck in its ear :(

Can't agree with you there. Young kids and dogs should ALWAYS be supervised and never ever left alone together no matter how steady. Even the mildest tempered dog can snap if it's startled or hurt - because they are unpredictable. Kids should not be allowed to poke and prod dogs, climb all over them etc., especially if you are upstairs in the shower or outside having a fag (like I usually am ). I confess I used to think that a dog who didn't react to that must be the steadiest of types, but I've learned an awful lot over the past 6 years. You hear people say 'oh the kids can do whatever they like to our dog, it never bats an eye'. Aye, great way to teach a kid how to respect a dogs' space innit? When that kid, say, trips over and falls on the dog or drops a die cast car on it's head and the dog reacts, people will marvel that their previously steady dog snapped. And if they weren't there supervising, they will probably blame the dog because they didn't see what happened. If somebody yanked my hair or tried to shove a pencil in my ear when I was asleep I wouldn't be very nice about it ... why expect a dog to take it? Don't leave them alone together, until the kids are older and you are as confident as you can be that your kids have been taught about handling dogs and that your dogs have been taught about kids.

In this case I believe the reports are that this man spent a great deal of time training and exercising his dogs and all the neighbours viewed him as a responsibile owner. Probably he was, even within the loosest parameters of the definition. Who knows what set the dog off, or why it was loose in the house when it normally wouldn't be. Tis a shame for everyone involved.

I don't leave my daughter unsupervised dog or not. I want to be within earshot of her at the very least i.e. in the next room or playing in the garden. If she is playing with the dog we watch them as she still pulls him about from time to time. I can't understand what the parents were thinking to leave such a young child in the same room as a dog of any breed. My dog still probably looks upon our daughter as below him in the pecking order or at the very least an equal.

If i am correct, all the reports of dogs killing small children have been when the grandmother was in charge of the children, that says something to me about a shift in pack balance, very very sad cry.gif
