Can't understand why people take chances with dogs & kids. My dogs were kenneled outside just before my daughter was born. People may have total confidence in their dogs but there's always that chance. Can't imagine how the family must feel, my heart goes out to them

Terribly sad news  . . . . It is IMO another example of AM bulldogs, badly bred to produce an immensely powerful, and often human aggressive dog. I wouldn't have one full stop, and i'd certainly never have one around children. I'm not being "breedist" . . . But i've heard nothing but bad about Am's, and know of at least 14 that have reached maturity and become aggressive, all now have been destroyed.

It's shocking.

Spot on, dogs+kids dont mix. Any dog could kill a small child, but a powerful dog :wallbash: ,they should locked up in a kennel+run. What a waste of human life  .

Tis a very tragic thing indeed.

But I don't agree with the kids and dogs don't mix idea. I think if you are a family with kids and you keep dogs, kennelled out or not, you are responsible for teaching the dogs about kids and the kids about dogs. It's a must. You have to be ever vigilant with them, this I know having two dogs and three kids in my house :icon_eek: But dogs should be exposed to children so they learn that small, squeeky, fast moving humans are in fact NOT things they can play with. And kids need to know how to behave around dogs.

Keeping big powerful breeds like that and not being extra cautious is a disaster, we see it time and again. What a shame.

And I hasten to add, I have crates in my house for both dogs, and when I'm not going to be around to supervise, the dogs go in the crates. I've had dogs around my kids since they were crawling and I've not had an incident yet because I don't leave them together unattended

We are back to dodgy owners vs dodgy dogs. I remember when my daughter was about 6, we were walking along the canal footpath. There was an Asian guy walking towards us with his dog, off its lead but to heel. The dog was a Rottweiler, about 120 lbs worth. Big mean b'staard. My wee lass, who is damn near as mad as me, shouted "Nice dog dad", ran up and threw her arms round its neck and gave it a BIG KISS ON THE NOSE. Whereupon this savage attack killer dog lay down, rolled over and had a really good tum scratch. The owner had trained it properly. End of.
