skycat 6,173
What have you wormed the pup with? Only a good multiwormer like Drontal Plus or Milbemax will kill all types of worms.A heavy worm burden can actually stop the dog eating properly as their guts always feel irritated. Dogs do eat grass if they have an irritation such as worms in their guts, but mine all eat loads of grass at this time of year even though they are regularly wormed. This is normal, especially in spring when the grass is growing and full of nutrients as they get tiny amounts of trace elements, vitamins and minerals from vegetation even though they can't digest it very well. Some dogs are naturally poor feeders: a nightmare to try and get the weight on them. Is the dog calm, relaxed and happy? Does it have somewhere 'safe' to eat its food where no one or nothing can disturb it? Some dogs will only eat in their kennel or a very quiet corner. Some won't eat if you are watching them. If the dog is stressed for any reason that could make it picky: stress also messes up the digestive system so the dog might not want to eat. There are loads of reasons a dog might not eat properly. Is the dog getting enough (not too much!) exercise. Do you feed after exercise? Dogs should only be fed after exercise, not before. Is he drinking enough? Is there always clean fresh water available? What is the water bowl made from? Some dogs won't drink out of plastic as the chemically smell of plastic contaminates the water. How long have you had the dog? If you've recently got him what was he fed on before? Was he getting enough food before you got him or had he become used to not getting a lot of food? Have you tried giving him less food? He doesn't look that thin to me, though its dificult to tell from a photo. Have you got a regular routine for the pup. Like taking him out at the same time every day, within reason of course. Feeding at the same time. Have you got other dogs which might be putting him off his food? Getting a pup right is a bit like being a detective: if there is a problem there is nearly always a reason to which you can find the answer if you look at the problem from enough different angles, if you see what I mean.
