DUCKWING so is that a general tonic for the wellbeing of hens

BREEDING SEASON MAINLY MATE ...................

THEY SHOULD GET THEIR CALCIUM NEEDED FROM THIER DAILY DIET ...........

ALL HENS NEED ANIMAL PROTIEN .... UNLESS THEY HAVE A GOOD FREE RANGE ,

THE LAYER PELLETS ETC .CONTAIN VEGTABLE PROTIEN NOW SINCE THE MAD COW DEASISE DEBARCLE , NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD ..... A LITTLE DOG / CAT FOOD WORKS WONDERS

OATS ARE ALSO A GOOD SOURCE OF CALCIUM IN A DECENT DIET ........

ALL THE BEST

This liquid calcium mate .....could it be used in laying pheasants as i haven't heard of it? How much is it and would it be feesible to use over a large number of hen pheasants?

Cheers

WELL MATE ,

THAT WOULD DEPEND ON HOW THE PHEEZIES ARE BEING KEPT ....... AND THE TYPE OF FLOOR COVER IN THE PEN ...

IF THEY ARE IN A LARGE PENNED AREA AND NOT OVERCROWDED ... THEY SHOULDNT NEED EXTRA CALCIUM AS THEY WILL BE PICKING UP LOADS OF INSECTS ETC ,........ IF THERES A LOT IN THE PENS , PERSONALLY I WOULD ADD A GOOD QUALITY MEAT AND BONE MEAL OR EVEN BETTER FISH MEAL TO SOME PELLETS WHICH ARE COATED WITH A LIGHT COVERING OF GROUND NUT OIL .... LEAVE OVERNIGHT TO DRY ON AND FEED TWICE A WEEK .........

ADD LIQUID CALCIUM TO THE DRINKERS TWICE A WEEK ...............

WHILE THE HENS ARE LAYING .................

ALL THE BEST

Cheers for the reply mate.

There feed has fish meal as standard anyway so that base is covered. The pens are grass but over the years alot of nettles have came through and they need to be dealt with before any birds arrive so its possible to find the eggs.

Al see if i can get a hold of this liquid calcium...........always good to try and up egg production and hatchibility, anything that helps the birds along can only be a bonus.

Cheers again

I have not been able to get any liquid calcium as pet shops have not heard of it and the couple of chemists I have been into only seem to sell calcium with a mix of other stuff as calciun needs iron to disolve apparently. Where do you get yours from?

Our chickens are in a large enclosure with trees plants and a bit of grass so plenty of bugs and they always have access to grit. This seems to be a one off so stress might have been the reason and it could have been crows. There seems to be loads about and they are getting brave and have been coming down around the chickens but are usually seen off sharpish. I will keep a look out and take action if they persist.
