Guest rattdog Posted October 30, 2006 Report Share Posted October 30, 2006 Im out in california and ferrets are ileagal here ITs a shame because of all the ground squirrels and gophers in this part of the world. the ground squirrels burrow entrances are about 5 inches in diameter and not too extensive much like a warren , some purse nets and ferrets and your good to go.the pocket gophers are another possible ferret quarry. with a locater and ferret you could really pursue these much easier than the method Im using now, but here is two that I got at my permission this weekend..... Guest rattdog Posted October 31, 2006 Report Share Posted October 31, 2006 yeah I may just go ahead and get a couple of hobs and build a ferret court, I need to break my terrier to ferts, funny I own quite a few guns and worries about the law holds me up from working ferts. guess if I do it on my permissions the farmers and land owners wont mind as long as thier gopher,rat, and ground squirrel numbers are down. just a bummer they wont leagalize ferrets, ferreting could really bring down the ground squirrel numbers here and help reduce the chances of the spread of bubonic plague these verminites cause... I think we have more problems with ferral cats , raccoons, and red fox killing off the ground nesting birds and water foul, and red fox can not be taken at any time in california. the b*****ds are protected and were not even origanally native to california, ferrets being illeagal in california is about as stupid as seatbelts on school buses, but some dickless politician always has to make a name for himself...if ferrets were so deadly to our ecosystem why arent cats looked at in the same light they are a very aggressive hunter with the patience of a friar....deadly combo... Especially when you take into acount the fact that the majority of US ferrets are sold already spayed and neutered and that the chance of enough uneutered ferrets surviving long enough to meet up and establish a feral population is very low- in fact it hasn't been an issue in any other US state where ferrets are legal. California is not New Zealand. :11: So why are the laws still in effect? Too much paperwork and too much ignorance is my bet. If you do get a ferret be aware that if you are caught the ferret/s may well be killed by the authorities. Not to mention that I hear it is difficult to get vet care for them if they should need it. Pet ferrets get killed for being in Cali. Doubt they would be pleased about illegal ferrets being used for illegal hunting. :whistle: Tread carefully. Quote Link to post
