I was asking about the "Lurcher" and how it was bred !! After all, the Lurcher has been going long before me, and I'm an old cvnt! So who has had the "old breeds" ? Cheers. Quote Link to post

bird 9,926
Bird, you don't need to put that dog up as a good dog on this thread... I was asking a hypothetical question !! I know for a fact that your dog has done the business ! Cheers. ok, still think colliexgreytype of dog . I have said before that most popular x was a colliexgreyx deerhoundxgrey in the 70s. And to be honest back then, that what i thought most lurchers were , of that x. you saw a few smaller types rough+smooth, but they were alot of x above more so than others. Quote Link to post
whin 463
charti ive had deerhoundy types , collie types still got them ,never had a terrier type, as in bred one or bought one as a pup,to me there should never be one type but they should be functional and do the work required as there no yard stick if they are not functional working dogs Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
IMHO a lurcher in years gon by would have been bred out of dogs that were redily available and it makes me wonder especialy in industrial areas did the lurcher start getting more popular with the rise in popularity of greyhound raceing in the 1920s and spent greyhounds being more easily obtainable Quote Link to post
whin 463
bird ye the collie type is or was the most popular but head to perth and keep going the deerhound type was more popular up there at one time mate , all the traveler guys and poachers liked a big old rough dog for a course or a bit veni years ago even the odd highland keper had abig rough deerhoundy type as dd the lairds etc Quote Link to post
riohog 5,708
40 /50 years ago my memories of lurchers were ///collie deerhound rough coated dogs ,of varying sizes Quote Link to post

lamping-lad 160
I think a lurcher is a ruff coated mongaralized greyhound type dog that hunts and poaches for the pot the type you see running behind a gypsy wagon in old photos Quote Link to post

weasle 1,119
The beauty of a lurcher to me is its,Fluidity,It is a customized dog.If you like a breed of dog for what ever reason, even if in its pure state it would not suit you or your hunting country .It can be breed in to your lurcher,to the desired %.That X might not suit any one eles but then all a lurcher has to do is please its owner.
