AlbertJ 569
Quite a few people who haven't been to Ballywalter before have contacted us for directions. These can be had from Google Maps if you type in Ballywalter Game Fair to your browser. The nearest large town is Newtownards. ON Monday 26th April at 12.00 noon we are bringing a COUNTRY COMES TO TOWN preview of the Fair's main arena programme to the Town Square in Newtownards at 12.00 noon. There will be horse & hounds, terrier racing, gundog, & casting demos plus Keith Mathews the BBC's problem Dog Trainer, and John Carmichael will fly a hawk in spite of the distraction of the resident pigeon population. All welcome.

AlbertJ 569
it should be a good day albert looking forward to it atb Thanks, Bearing in mind we only took on this challenge just over 4 months ago our team has done well both in terms of effort and investment. We now have 120 REAL stands booked in with plenty to interest any shooting/ country sports enthusiast including dog equipment; masses of guns and country clothing; a number of the best UK accessories stands including calls, decoys etc; good tackle stands and a lot of good well sponsored competitions and fun events packed into one day PLUS we decided to give country sports people a real bonus with a Shanes Castle and Ballywalter ticket ( either family or adult) for the normal price of Shanes AND NOT just available to members of a particular organisation or in advance BUT available to ALL at the gate. I consider the Fair will compare most favourably this year with any Irish Fair to date. We have put up reasonable terrier prizes - I would have liked to have done more but with underwriting the big prizes to be unveiled for the All Ireland at Shanes Castle, the big prizes for the ROI Championship at Birr and the HUGE prizes for the Five Nations Terrier Championships at Birr PLUS giving some pump priming sponsorship to other Irish Terrier and Lurcher shows my piggy bank was a bit depleted. However I am personally delighted that within one year of me becoming a member of this forum and taking an interest in the terrier and lurcher scene - even if it was to answer criticism - our commitment to raising the standard of Terrier & Lurcher prizes at our shows has caused other Fairs and shows to enhance theirs. This is good but should not get out of hand because at the end of the day everyone can't win the overall championships and that's why we give trophies and rosettes for each class. It has been an interesting and rewarding experience to chat directly to a very enthusiastic group of guys and girls about their sport and I have met some very interesting people. It has redooubled my desire to make sure Terrier & Lurcher people have an important role to play in our fairs. Over the years they have had a bad reputation probably justified in some cases but instead of tucking the terrier & lurchers into one day and/or into a corner of the Fair we try to make them a real part of the Fair while maximising the potential racing course. This year our judges will come from all over the UK and Ireland - yes there are fair Irish judges! And I have informed our organisers the Mid Antrim that I have put my personal reputation on the line to stand over these judges. As a Championship show judge of gundogs and a test and trial judge I would defy anyone to claim that I have ever judged anything other than the dog and friends who have entered under me ( and been disappointed) can confirm that. I expect nothing less of the judges we have appointed this year. Albert Edited April 22, 2010 by AlbertJ

Oman when your on the Main Street head on out of Ballywalter towards Ballyhalbert. You'll drive past toilets/play park/tennis courts. The entrance is on the right hand side. Your only talking a few hundred yards past the end of the Main Street. Stop and ask somebody if your stuck. cheers many thanks hope it is a great day.
