help stock breaking my lakeland pup

Recommended Posts

i would put the dog on the lead and just walk it as close to stock as possible, whenever it shows an interest just correct it with a sharp tug on the lead and a firm no,keep this up until you feel it has the desired effect, hope this helpsthumbs.gif

start by making sure your pup is nice and calm before even aproaching the stock as if the pup is hyped up this will only make it harder for you to gain her full attention once the pup is nice and calm start by walking her past the stock nice and calmly if she starts to look or even pull in the general direction of the stock give her a check promptly on the leed with aq firm short and sharp LEAVE once you have done this give her a little treat peice of chicken ' biscuit or something that the pup really likes repeat this little but often as there attention span is pretty short at this age after a littl while time and plenty of pattience the pup should then start to click the word leave means treat (good if your dog is food driven) once you have managed to redirect the pups attention from the stock sart to leave the treat out and just use the word LEAVE. once you have mastered this on a short leed then try on a long training lead and start to repeat the process but when you say leave put the command in COME or HEAL then each time the pup comes to heal give a treat this way you are teaching re call aswell but dont expect miracles over night mate this takes time but once you have cracked it mate then try off the leed but i would make sure just in case that she can not get to the stock. hope this helps has worked for mine where stock is concerned atb willum and good luck
