The question is have I left it to late in the season to start a Hive off? the Hive will be fully functional when I get the brood box and floor......

Still plenty of time left this year to build up a colony, if you buy in a nucleus or a get a swarm and we get enough good weather for bees to forage then you should be fine but you really need to get on with it now and get that hive ready.

First inspection of the “Cas” bees today, they’ve been in the hive for two weeks now, they were very gentle and stopped on the comb throughout, plenty of capped brood ... couldn’t be better.

Nice set up you ( and the wife) have there  ??. I managed to pick up a swarm last week, can’t beat free bees ??

Got me wife a hive for Xmas now we have 2 hives and a nuke box ( collected a swarm today) , its way to complicated for me just hope she gets me some honey ha

as a newbie beekeeper of only 2 weeks, god must be smiling on me, as collected another cast swarm yesterday, have seen the queen and they are all settled in a homemade 6 frame nuc, have also found out that the first swarm is queenless, as on checking cells, we had between 1 and 5!!!! eggs per cell, so a laying worker, once the new swarm has settled in and queen mated, may try combining both swarms via a paper marriage

Don't no if it's any good good to any one but I was in hitchin,Stevenage today in the national grid training center and a swarm of bees landed there this afternoon, thousands of them it looked like.they ended up all just piled up on the stones I take it starring a nest.the company were just going to leave them there, bearing in mind I no nothing about beekeeping i thought someone might be able to round them up and make use.google national grid hitching for contact details If its of any use to anyone.

caught 2 swarms last sunday put 1 straight into an empty top bar the other into a poly nuc with 6 new topbars

went to transfer the nuc to another empty topbar today and 5 of the bars needed cutting to fit as they had build new comb on all bars already and 5 were fully square the size of the nuc so needed to be tapered to fit the topbar

amazing how fast they work when there starting out from fresh

Went to an introduction to beekeeping meeting tonight :) Ordered a nuc for some reason, even though I've nothing else sorted out. bit of pressure might get me into action  Was very interesting altogether. I'm always surprised by the variety of people that will turn up to the strangest of gatherings.
