sgl 0
Hi guys This is my first post so be gentle with me. I applied for my FAC in the end of Dec 09 and have just been informed that my license is coming on weds. 15 weeks must be a record I am picking up my cz varmint 16 " probably first thing thursday morning, think they open at 9 o/c...better get there early just in case. What is the best ammo to go for as the chap in the gun shop said that there all made by the same people just branded differently and to go for the cheapest available at that time. Has anybody else heard this or are there any advantges between brands? sgl Quote Link to post
Treacle Trackpad 6
Most people seem to settle on Hornady V-Max or Remmies. Best thing to do is either find a friend who will let you shoot some of theirs or get a box of each before buting a load. Where are you, I have some you could try if you are near to me. Thanks for the reply....I am in somerset..are you a Tanky by chance? Nah mate, not a tanky I've got a CZ American 16" too mate, cracking gun. I had a few boxes of Hornady V-max 17gr with it and it shoots straight as a die with them. As said above if you can get a few different rounds and see which are best and stick to them as each gun has a preference. Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
When my HMR was brand new it did without doubt favour the Hornady 17g, several others were terrible (especially the 20g loads), but now it has seen many thousand rounds it is happy with just about everything, although it is still not comfortable with Winchester, could always be a slightly iffy batch of course. The 20g is actually quite good now, but it still seems to like Hornady 17g the best!!! Don't ask me why! Edited April 12, 2010 by Deker Quote Link to post
sgl 0
Answers my question Even more promising were the 2003-2004 announcements by CCI, Federal and Remington that they were commencing distribution of .17 HMR ammunition under their brand names. CCI will continue to manufacture the .17 HMR ammo for all four brands, but the load specifications vary. The 2003 Remington catalog shows that their initial .17 HMR offering is in their Premier line, uses the 17 grain V-Max boat tail bullet, and has identical ballistics to the Hornady load. The Federal and Speer loads use a 17 grain Speer TNT (hollow point) spitzer bullet, with the Federal load at 2550 fps and the CCI load at 2525 fps. Ammunition of all brands, initially in short supply, is now widely available and is selling for about $8.95/50 round box at discount stores in my area. From Archiekale post Many thanks guys, Ihave enjoyed whiling away the time reading this forum whilst waiting for my fac...did i mention 15 weeks!! Great response for my first post thanks again SGL Quote Link to post
