Opportunity knocks

Recommended Posts

I decided to go out this afternoon and shoot some load development rounds through my new Chrony. Anyway to cut a long story short, I'd been blatting away for a good couple of hours when I packed up my kit and made my way to the gate. As I was negotiating the knot of bailing twine holding the gate shut I looked back at where my target was and there was a Rook inspecting my backstop. These Rooks ravage the field next door when the cerials are in, and I have been asked to shoot them on sight by the land owner as they aren't too bothered by the gas gun or scarers he puts out. So, I knew it was 175 yds from the gate to the backstop but I just had to hope the rook would hang around while I took my rifle out of the bag, inserted the bolt, put a couple or rounds in the mag and generally got my admin sorted (thought I'd finished for the day :icon_eek: ).

Anyway a 36grn Varmint Grenade was soon on its way at 3350 fps...

TT, how are you finding the "grenades"?

Everyone else always posts that they are horrible and innaccurate, at 175yds you seem to be doing ok

nice shot!!

i have some rooks and crows that are having a pop at the newly drilled corn too.

a couple of decoys and a dead fox might do the trick i think(for a while anyway).

good shooting and thanks for sharing bud.

The grenades group ok and I'm confident with them out to 200 yds but expansion is a bit pump, nothing like they are cracked up to be. I'm just using the last ones up now, on stuff like this and bunnies on my way home from foxing. I developed a load with the same POI as my 40 grn Blitzkings so can interchange :victory: .

I won't be getting any more VG's. 40grn Blitzkings are grouping at .34" (100 yds) and pushing 3400fps over 22grn RL7 which is great.

I am interested in your reloading of your .222.Am i right in saying you use 22 grains of reloder 7 and 40 grain blitzkings .Is this set up okay for foxes and if so up to what range .Thanks .

It definately works for me but I worked up to it using the manual and observing for pressure signs etc. Depends on what rifle you are using of course. Always start at min load and work up your load.

I zero 1" high at 100 Yds whick is point and click out to 200 yds and then starts to drop off to -3.5" by 250. Good for fox out to this distance if you know your aining point.
