2 for the pot

Hi All

Went up to my farm permission early this morning, took my mate Jim with me. We decided on trying to double our chances of success by putting out a few pigeon decoys over the rape, in front of the old out buildings we were going to hide in. That way by shooting from the broken windows of the hide we could cover the rape/pigeons from the front window and the rabbits in the hedgerow from the side window.

It wasn't long before a couple of pigeons swooped in to our little pattern. Jim had that side covered and despached a pigeon with a whisper of "you beauty". It went quiet then for a while untill a rabbit appeard at the hedgerow in front of me, no clear head shot so had to let it go.

Probably another 20 minutes went by and still nothing so we decided on a coffee, of course as soon as I put my gun down a rabbit is sitting there chewing grass, I slowly reached for the gun took aim pulled the trigger and phttt, I'd loaded an empty mag (schoolboy error). No chance bunny was going to hang about while I p****d about loading another mag. Jim came across to my window but couldn't see our furry friend, a new full mag installed I scanned the hedge and unbelievably he was still waiting for me. This time I took him out with a good head shot and to show his appreciation Mr Rabbit perfomed a nice back sumersault, we scored him 8 out of 10, he lost marks for a sloppy landing.

Things went very quiet then, time to move elswhere.

We drove about half a mile to another field, this one had no cover at all. soon after arriving we could see rabbits running about in the distance. We apprached as slowly and quietly as possible but of course we'd been spotted, every rabbit disappeared. Jim decided to carry on to the next field I thought I'd get laid down and see what happened. Sure enough after 10 miutes or so out they came to out play again, a bit out of range though (my range anyway). Then one skipped down towards me, It was in range but I could only see it's ears and the top of it's head I'd have to raise myself up a bit to get a shot. Slowly lifting up a little I could see it's head, this time no mistakes, right behind the eye.
