Squirrel_Basher 17,100
If your using the same ground year after year mate then gapes are the least of your worries and limimg should of been done at the end of last rearing season and not this close to a new one. Quote Link to post
pgb 0
hi e found gapes best treated with wormer in food, you can get this added by mill (only trouble vet needs to write prescription) or buy worm powder suitable for poultry and mix in yourself, not a fun job with large amount pellets!! hope this helps Quote Link to post

POM Panacur sheep drench is used as well, mix into the wheat and left overnight to dry then feed as normal next day (I hand feed so know how much I will use each day) Ivermectin can be used as long as its water soluble. That kills parasites inside and outside the birds.but not approved for pheasants ! I know a few lads who use it and a few hundred pigeon racers use it as well .so it cant be that bad ? You can treat the pen every year and hold it back, but all the ground outside the pen is infected as well so the birds will pick it up eventualy so be prepared and treat as required . Too true!!!!!. moving the pen is the only way, I'd rather have less cover in a new pen than use a pen that had gapes last year, you can always take cover in to a new pen if needs be,granted the shortage of easy roosts In the pen is another pain, esecially if you have foxes around when the birds leave the pen as the birds will not have learnt to go up to roost and will just sit and roost on the ground..
