There isn't much grass seed about at this time of the year????

The are eating the new growth of Clover, especially on wet days when the drillings are clangy and sticks to their feet.

I've had 3 x 100+ bags on clover this spring. The good thing about it is you can leave birds to build up on the field and they won't eat it off like drillings and the farmers don't mind like on Rape where they do damage.

Mark.

Decoy where ever.

Last year I noticed a long time after the harvest pigeon were going to a few particular parts of the field, all the spilt grain had long gone.

When I checked it was large clumps of Thistle plants knocked over.

Just out of curiosity I gathered loads from the hedge over several days & put them out close to a hide area.

Wasn't touched.

They still gathered at the original clumps though.

i went on a walk the other day rough shooting! bagged a pigeon that scarperred out the hedge! on this perticular walk there is a spinny at the far end! i dug in! waited till pigeons flew over, threw the one i had as far as i could! and bang. one more in the bag. i left them out there for another hour. and no joy! there has to be a flight line around if your gonna pigeon shoot! no good where i tried it!

Some of the land i shoot is organic veg there is a grass strip about 10 yards wide not direct on the flight line ,sometimes were i put the hide might be near 5 lots of different crops planted tight together ,i decoy the grass strip using around 10 full bodied and a a couple of loft poles when they come some times they split up ,when the purple sprouting is in season the flocks triple in size it looks like they come to the grass because of the choice i would say at a guess im a couple of hundred yards from the night line ?
