SHO8 YOU MAYBE THINK IM RUINING THINGS MATE FAR FROM IT I LIKE GOOD WORKING ANIMALS AND IF A MAN OR WOMAN HAS A GOOD DOG ILL E BE THE FIRST ONE TO SAY THAT,IF THERE A BAG OF SHIT SAME WAY, SURLY THERE NOTHING BAD ABOUT THAT BUD,AND WHEN YOU HAVE GOD ONES ITS HARD TO KEEP IT GOING , AND HARD TO REPLACE , AT TIMES

Not being funny whin but the deerhound was in a lot of lurcher to lurcher bred dogs 30 years ago and some very good hare killing dogs were produced [bANNED TEXT] deerhound greys were crossed back to collie grey hybrids i have seen quite a few of these run over the years and were outstanding all round lurchers

Probably still is today When i was a kid almost every bitza you seen had some deerhound in the make up....this fella i know who's been breeding lurcher x lurcher for as long as i've known him if you ask him the breeding of his dogs he says "theres deerhound/greyhound/collie /saluki/whippet if its been used in a lurcher its in these"

nice size for the rabbits , a bit more lke the dogs we had, ours were like norfolk lurcher type and mick douglas type straw coulor broken coated dogs ,

Davey, I haven't spoken to Bill for a while, so I don't know who got the other pups, I'm just glad I got my pick, she is heading exactly the way I wanted her to !

I like Deerhound/Greyhounds and Deerhound/Greyhound/Collie/Greyhounds there are some Deerhound/Greyhound and Deerhound/Greyhound/Collie/Greyhound on the dvd Lurcher mania you can see they are not to big for rabbits

 

People who say they are too big for rabbits are showing their in-experience a tad...Ive never seen a big dog that couldnt take a rabbit because of its size. Ive also had a number of pure bred deerhounds that took into the high twenties at night, and had a bitch that caught 14 blue hares in one day (and they are just big rabbits)

 

I'd definitely agree with you there. No such thing as too big, if the dog is correctly proportioned it will have no problem picking up rabbits. I have a 29" old first cross that takes them in her stride. She was good on the lamp in her time, though shes getting a bit old now.

we bred Nuala to our beardie greyhound, looking forward to bringing her pup Inca on next season, now 7 months old and 22" tts

 

 

 

 

Isla, our old first x deer/grey, 29" tts, and not a problem picking up bunnies, she was good on the lamp in her time and picked up rabbits in her stride but she is hard mouthed.

I've allways liked Nuahla, and was very tempted to have a pup out of her, same as Woodgas Deer/Grey bitch, another one I was tempted with, both proven workers; but I had set my mind on a 1st cross Deer/Grey. There should be some decent pups running next season with pleanty Deerhound in them !!

you mabe think big dogs ahave not a problem but when bolting rabbs ive saw smaller dogs beating the big dog to the stage the big dog sat on the holes ,cause the faster more flexible small dog was up and at them ,on some ground big dogs will do well i keep dogs 27 26 and they caych rabbs easy but compared to my collie type in her day they were not in the running ,me personaly i dont keep the big dog for rabbs ,but they cacth them ,loclay on winter wheat the rabbs fly and it takes a handy dog to catch them regulary as they are wily and lamp shy ,another thing chaseing pre ban the big dogs sometimes took more time to turn a good winter hare ,compared to a smaller more agile dog ,your black pup is simliar to a black pup ive got here ,nice pup ,

Here you go again Obvously the smaller agile dog should catch rabbits quicker dont take a rocket scientist....always a feckin opposite opinion why dont you feck off and chase some beasties This thread was goin well until you chime in

Theres no doubting on certain land, a smaller more agile dog will be better on rabbits, that goes without saying and its what anyone would expect. That said, while out "mooching" our biggest deer x is very often first to get to the rabbit, dont know if its age/experience or shes just one of those dogs thats in the right place at the right time, but she doesnt show herself up amongst the smaller ones. I wouldnt use her rabbiting on the land we run nowadays, she is too big to go racing through the kind of woods they run in, and when she does accidentally (out mooching) and she comes across game, she has on occasions injured herself , but no-one can knock her for determination and wanting to catch what she is up against.

 

If someone asked me if I could have her again as a pup, to start all over again, the answer would be a resounding yes one of my biggest regrets is not breeding a litter of pups out of her, a few years ago when she was younger I very nearly did
