A first cross deerhound greyhound will either be brindle or black..and there is a slight possibility of a fawn....

But that is a nice stamp of dog you have there mate

a few things, it just doesnt look like a first cross to me at all - size, colour & shape to start with, first crosses tend to be much larger than the dog in your photo looks, deeper in the chest, longer in the back and legs. Your dog looks to have some collie in it to me, I could be wrong though...

 

A pic of my first cross, taken today - shes around 10 years old now & 29" tts, she is much bigger than my two other deerhound crosses, Most first crosses will be 27" or above. What size is dog in your photo?

 

 

Have a look on the thread at some of the first crosses already posted, they are much bigger, leggier dogs

Thats right, I have seen a fawn once, Islas brother was light fawn brindle, but any others I have seen have always been brindle or black

I judged pair of genuine 1st X's a while back, they were allmost ginger brindle; Lima's litter were all blacks except two dark brindles; I've seen some 1st X's that were "bluey gray", and I've seen lots that had a white blaze or a white toe; but I haven't seen a parti coloured 1st X.

never seen a blue gray first cross, but if it was a mature dog, it could be brindle underneath its main coat, or the deerhound used may not have been pure. Most pure bred deerhounds are brindle under their grey main coat.

Yes mate, the odd "bluey gray" that I've seen were adult dogs. The owners seemed sure they were 1st X's, but who knows in this game ??

Yes I know, anything that looks like a deerhound..but the owners were wrong on this one..not first crossers.

 

Heres a litter of pure bred deerhounds, these all turned out the usual grey when adult..

she stands at 24" at the shoulder last time i checked, your proble right about her. my knowledge about lurchers is minimal, she is my 1st lurcher
