Marksman 934
Back out again tonight to try and reprive myself from the slaughter the bunnies gave me yesterday! By god did I teach them a lesson! Me n wor kid decided on a change of tactics. Instead of going in the same car to the same place and then splitting up we each went to the couple of small local permissions on our own. I opted for the same one I visited yesterday leaving wor kid the slightly bigger of the two. So.....I hit the plot at about 00.30, checked zero all was fine all 5 shots inside the size of a penny now I just needed to put it into practice! Now what I just love about rabbits are that they are creatures of habit. I made my way to where they were sitting yesterday just over the heap a quick scan with the lamp and sure enough two of the little bugger sitting about 35m away again a foot apart munching away with not a care in the world. That was when the adrenalin hit me....I HAD to redeem myself after yesterdays "session". I managed to get down to the prone position onto the bipod and composed the shot.....lined the crosshairs.....slowed my breathing and took up the first stage...... concentrate....breathe.....and squeeze........... The .22 defiant left the barrel with a "pfffft" and there was such and almighty "CRACK" as bugs rolled over, gave the "one paw wave" and was still!!........woohoo..... I had broken my duck!! His mate obviously legged it and I walked over to claim my "prize"...... a perfect headshot a cm behind it's left eye. As I got further into the field there was nothing....not one bunny so I headed round the back and guess what...... yup..... after scanning the ground with the lamp I found them creatures of habit again. The 3 that were there yesterday were in more or less the same place. Now could I get into the same position as yesterday and have "the perfect shot"?? I moved as slowly as I could then it happened....I stepped on a twig..... at 0120 in the morning you'd think I fired a shotgun....."SNAAAAP!!!!" Well....that was it I thought they'd be well spooked by now and have legged it.....they did...but not as far as I thought, one had disappeared leaving the other 2 10m left of their last position. Kneeling this time I adjusted my position and lined up on the closest bunny....It was looking straight at me...head on..... Crosshairs lined up between the eyes I took a quick snap shot and a second later saw bugs practising his trampolining for the summer olympics flipping over in a 360 degree motion and lay motionless. Now what I can understand is why his mate didnt leg it..... he sort of stuck around and although it may seem daft I had a laugh to myself imagining him saying to his mate...."Here!....You alright mate???" so I thought it would be rude not to let him join his mate so I clobbered him on the noggin as well again giving the "one paw wave" That was me done for the night, I have a bit of work on today so came home. I'm still waiting on hearing how wor kid done as he's not answering his phone so I guess we'll just have to wait for the write up! Here's mine for tonight anyway and to all you who replied on my previous thread...thanks again!! Darryl 1 Quote Link to post

david2363 42
When I started to read your post, (with all the suspense and drama you weaved into it) I thought perhaps you may have been pitting your wits against Grizzly Bears, Mountain Lions, or even Taliban snipers. Then I discover it's rabbits you were pitting your wits against. Like you say, they are creatures of habit, and frequent the same spots night after night.. Glad you taught them a lesson though... . ............ Quote Link to post
