RicW 67
One of you apply for SGC, t'other for FAC. You can use each other's guns if you are out together. Ric Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
If you look at the top of the forum it explains all about SGC (shotgun certificates) and FAC (firearms certificate) It's self explanatory, for a shotgun you need a shotgun certificate, which is the easier of the two to get approved. If you go for the rifle you will need the firearms certificate. As you've worked out for yourself, what is "best" is purely a matter of opinion, taking into account the type of shooting you want to do. So a rifle would be pretty useless against birds in flight, clays and bolted rabbits, but try shooting a 75 yard rabbit with a shotgun and you'll find it similarly useless. Each of the types has it's place in the armoury of the hunter, and it's up to you to decide which will best suit your needs. For the firearms certificate you will need to individually register each rifle, and have approval to hold each type/calibre of rifle that you need. I' hope you realise how lucky you are with your parents, they seem to be very understanding and helpful! I was shooting .22 target rifle at school from the age of 13 but was never allowed a gun at home for hunting or anything like that. My airgun hunting career started at the age of 20, at about the same time as I started doing a lot of full-bore rifle shooting! Good luck, I'm sure you will greatly enjoy whichever you decide on! njc110381 0
I'd suggest you both ask for a co-terminous SGC and FAC. Being young I'd guess you're on a limited budget so if you both go for both certificates then you can both list both guns on your licenses. That way you can share a safe and guns so you can both use which ever you feel you need on the day. Getting a FAC and SGC at the same time only costs an extra tenner each and you'll save that by not needing two safes. I'd go for a shotgun of either 12 or 20 bore and a .17HMR or .22lr, depending on how far away you need to be able to shoot the bunnies. Quote Link to post
