It's good to see you coming into shooting but a few points.....a biger better gun, I have 3 cabinets full of shotguns and rifles yet I still have a 12ft lb and a 26ft air rifle as well, because I have a use for them.

No gun calibre or power is BETTER than another, they are just different and have differing uses!!

You do need to rush, if you have expectations of getting either, especially a FAC by July!

What do you primarily want to shoot and at what ranges??

What land do you have?

What input/knowledge do your parents have of this subject overall??

Like I say, it's great to see you wanting to get into all this, and we all started somewhere and we all had/have a lot to learn, but perhaps another word with your gamekeeper pal, etc is in order...

i want to shoot rabbits bolted by the ferrets and a bit of decoying and crow and pigeon shooting ..what do you think would be best for this, lets just think about rifle or shotgun to start with, forget calibres??...

:icon_redface: yes i know shotgun but i like the 410 28 and the 9 bore garden gun but my bro thinks rifles are better so i was wanting your view on the problum :clapper:

well im 5,8 and 13 stone at 17 years old not a small lad i tell you and a 410 knocked me back a few steps the first time i ever shot one, glad i never had to shot the 12 bore i walked a few hedge lines with, that f****r would of problbay put me on my arse but then again i was never told how to shot a shot gun before i handled it and my stance was all wrong :wallbash: (damn airguning, gives you bad gun control :censored: ) well i suppose a sgc would be the first one to go for as i think its easier and quicker to get hold of  but for some reason i dont think the police are gonna let a 15 year old run about with a center fire rifle no matter how mature :victory:

Reet well here is my 'tu pence' worth on the matter. After just turning 16 i got my first 12 bore but i was a fairly big 16 year old (5 foot 11) and about what i am now (6 foot 1 and nearly 18) and i know young kids who also use a 12 but as you are scottish and I understand 20's are popular up there i voted 20 bore as at 15 it will be a lighter gun but i should not hold you back. As has been mentioned speak to your keeper as if you are to be granted a sgc you will need another sgc holder to buy you your gun and carts and if your parents aren't holders then you may have to get him to do it. Best of luck with it all i got mine granted at 16 :gunsmilie:

On the problem you outlined above, he is incorrect..

"i want to shoot rabbits bolted by the ferrets and a bit of decoying and crow and pigeon shooting"

However, I'd say it is infinately possible you will also have a use for a .22lr.

As there are two of you then problem solved potentially, if you can get both and your parents go for it!
