pest hunter 151 15
pigeons once paired up will stay together season after season but if one of the pair was to be shot the other would find another mate farmer Hi mate just found this from Yahoo. (Pigeons I do believe feel love. They do mate for life and it has been proven that they will not take another mate after the death of their first one. Studies have shown that they will sometimes even stop eating after the loss and even in some cases commit suicide. They have purposely flown into moving cars when no other vehicles are around and into solid objects at speed, killing them instantly. If that is not love I don't know what is! Its both sad and beautiful at the same time. I would do the same thing if something happened to my fiance (My soul mate!). Not talking about pigeons in captivity! Talking about them in their natural environment! The wild!) Quote Link to post

borntoshoot 1
Im supprised no one has mentioned that like rats and rabbits Woodies CAN mate all year round and sometimes do if its warm enough. So you could say that its wrong to shoot a pigeon at any time. Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
but you notice them with chicks most at spring. theres a pigeon sitting on a nest in my garden which you can get within 3 yrds of with it kjnowing because it wants to defend its nest. anyother time and they would fly off spotting you 60 yrds off. farmerkev09 105
i have a pigeon loft and thats where i got the idear of pigeons not mating for life as i personally mix and match cock birds with hens (selective breeding) i also have a cops at the bottom of the garden with about 6-8 woodies on a regular baseis they feeding with my birds i have on occasion shot a few but after a while i find my self counting 6-8 woddies once again am not saying for one minute that they dont but i find it hard for a pigeon to commit suicide Natural instinct is to get away from danger not init now the local black bird thats a different story he must love my bay window we better ask David Attenborough on this one its a hard en farmer Quote Link to post
gringo40 13
I watched a DVD by Chris Green, think he's something to do with BASC. He reckons to stop shooting them while they're nesting, but then again the chances of both parents getting shot must be remote. I suppose if you've got a job to do sorting the pigeons out for a farmer and he says shoot em, what can you do Carl Quote Link to post
