the fifty snare challenge

Recommended Posts

Right, fellow snarers, here is a little challenge, its not a competition and there will be no prizes for who snared the most.

Get out there and set fifty snares, it must either be 50 fence wires or 50 peg(&hoop) wires. See how well you do over 1 night, so get them wires out early.

I know for the likes of woodga & P&G, fifty snares is nothing, but they are fortuneate enough to have permission to snare, trap, shoot, dog, whatever thousands upon thousands of rabbits. I'm sure that wooda or phil could kill more rabbits in a week than i can in a season, so we'l keep the number of snares low at 50.

There is no start date & no end date, as this is just a bit of fun. Just whenever it suits you, when the weathers right or whatever, go out and set fifty snares and show us a picture of how well you did.

Note to Woodga, P&G, Snareman, DO NOT BOTHER POSTING PICTURES AS YOU WILL JUST EMBARRESS US ALL :11:

I don't know what kind of snares you are using in this contest. For beavers here in North Carolina, USA, I use camlocks with 7x7 galvanized. Success here is has a lot to do with what equipment is used and the user's knowledge of how to use it. I would like to get into this, but would like to know the limits first.

Hello Trapperman, Good to have you on here. You can help me with my foothold trapping

He is using 6 stranded brass snares there are some proffesional snareman on here who use these and i have done a little snaring and they deffinatley are the chop.

They are made from brass spun into 6 strands with an eyelet in one end,

And are fixed to the "Tealer" (support wire) through an eye spun in the tealer. The snare wire then has a double knot in its end. Forming a swivel.

Read this and im sure you will be on your way to catching some rabbits,

These brass snares have been known to hold fox cubs, There was a picture back a while from Rabbithunter with a nice little fox cub. However i do not think i would intentionally snare fox cubs with brass. They would bite through,

Im sure you will get along with Woodga PegandGun and Snareman. All very good at this fine art.

Do you do much trapping with the footholds?

Well Rabbithunter- It will have to be the 58 wire challenge………..as that’s what I put out this morning. Three separate fields, some with grass longer than others. All peg snares. We will see tomorrow.

Cheers. :)

Just dont count 8 of the empty snares :11:

Hi all,

Well not the best of nights for the wires but still had 11 and one knocked  . These wires will be out for another two nights so I will keep you posted. I also set another 79 peg snares in a 40 acre field today. Will let you all know what the catch is.

Cheers

Total from the 58 peg wires was 28 over 3 nights picking up the wires that had court a long the way, as I don’t have that much time in the morning so I don’t re-set them. It has turned real frosty and clear down here so I am quite happy with that.

The other set has not done so well. 18 so far with a few knocks. The grass is quite long in this field and I had not got the snares set high enough. These are still out as a mate of mine is checking them as it is on his farm.

Once the weather turns again and the moon is down I will get some more out.

Sorry no pics as I am on dial-up and it takes forever.

Cheers
